3 Out Of 10 is a whacky, light-hearted sitcom, by developer Terrible Posture Games, about a dysfunctional game studio based in New England that will leave you wanting more to see. The series touches upon some real-world problems too, but nothing so overbearing or distracting from the main themes of the story. I was not sure what to expect when I first saw the trailer, thinking it might be a cartoon version of The Office, but I’m happy with what this show/game has presented so far.
The first thing you might notice is that the design is somewhat unique. My initial reaction was that these characters and animations are something I could whip up in Adobe After Effects, but I enjoyed the look and feel the more I played. The 2D characters in a 3D space is really cool, especially when you interact with the world by clicking on objects, playing minigames, and talking to characters. Funny enough, the style gave me the feeling that we were literally viewing the world from a low-budget, time-pressed, point of view.
The game’s characters are also written very well. They all have their own unique personalities, and it really shows in their interactions, reactions, voices, and personalized design. For example, Viper is the eccentric concept artist who dresses like Wolverine and has a knack for coming off as intense, as though larping as one of his video game idols. I think the main character, Midge, can come off as a little underdeveloped, but I think it is a necessary tradeoff as to introduce us to the strangeness of Shovelworks Studio. But that’s not to say she doesn’t develop over time, because there is more to her than meets the eye. Midge is sensible, and mostly confused by the team’s antics, but it’s that sense of wonder that drives the plot forward initially. As the series goes on, we get to play as multiple members of the team and embrace this strange new world.
There are many minigames across these five episodes. They vary in engagement and enthusiasm, but they are each unique. It is pretty meta that you get to test the build of the game in development while playing the main game. If you don’t want to play any of these games and just came for the story, you can just skip right ahead. I’ll warn you now, though; there is some funny dialogue you will miss out on if you skip. The main incentive to play the games is to collect stars for your overall score at the end. There isn’t any real incentive to dominate the leaderboard, but I did it anyway.
3 Out Of 10 is a nice, casual experience, and I enjoyed watching and playing. The average runtime per episode can range from 30-45 minutes, given the minigames and time walking around or exploring. I think the humor is great, the voice acting is good, and the design is charming. I would say a fair score for this title is a 9 out of 10. I’m looking forward to more in 2021.

PC Review
I like to think of myself as the average Joe who grew up alongside video games. I have fun playing strategy games, RPGs, shooters, sandboxes, the whole shebang! Every game provides an experience whether it strikes you as profound, mundane, or someplace in between. I'd like to weigh in my two cents before you spend a single penny.
