At GDC, Hotline Miami’s publisher Dennaton Games announced that the gameplay will remain in the 90’s.
In addition, Dennaton’s Jonatan Söderström and Dennis Wedin said that the gameplay ‘will stray in a few different directions, with parallel plots built around the first game, and more attention on emotional experiences.’
Hotline Miami’s protagonist, ‘Jacket’ will also make his appearance in the sequel, but will not be a playable character.
This sequel will be the end for the Hotline Miami series as the developer will be moving on to another project.
