Epic Games has sold all rights to the Gears of War franchise to Microsoft Studios.
Microsoft has placed new Canadian studio Black Tusk in charge of the newly acquired Gears of War franchise.
In addition, Microsoft has hired Gears of War veteran Rod Fergusson to oversee development of the franchise. Fergusson was former director of production at Epic Games before leaving to help BioShock Infinite get out of the door. He said his new job “really feels like a homecoming”.
Epic Games founder, Tim Sweeney, stated the developer will “concentrate its efforts on new projects.” In addition, Epic Games’ PR Wes Phillips tweeted that,

In addition, Epic Games licensed Unreal Engine 4 to Microsoft for use on future projects.
