We all have a voice, but do you use yours? Altered Matter’s new game for PC, Etherborn, sets a new standard for puzzle games by combining remarkable gameplay and a captivating storyline. Collecting orbs, unlocking special passageways and advancing through a retrospective story, this puzzle game provides a new take on how players perceive gravity. But beware of the optical illusions or you might fall into the abyss!

The objective of the game is simple, but that doesn’t mean the game is. As they explore a variety of unique, gravity-defying worlds, players collect white crystals and unlock secret passageways. With each level offering puzzles that will truly test your mind, Etherborn is a creative and refreshing experience for those who enjoy puzzle games. Whether players want to do a speed-run or play casually, Altered Matter is bound not only to entertain but to surpass all expectations.

The storyline of Etherborn is enchanting. Players will hang on every word as an voiceless entity speaks to them about the power of life and the value of voice. Drawing upon man’s own perspective, both literally and metaphorically, Altered Matter does a beautiful job showing how quickly the light can fade to darkness. As they listen to the meaningful message behind this soothing siren, players will truly question, how important is my voice and more importantly, do I use it?

I will say, I am very appreciative of the gameplay. Although the intro suggests players should use a controller for the best experience, I highly recommend using a keyboard. Not only is it comfortable but is extremely easy for any avid PC gamer. Because Altered Matter keeps the controls so simplistic, it makes the game enjoyable for both PC and console gamers so using a keyboard should be no problem. Either way you play, the controls are smooth and easy to use from the beginning so go with comfort!

The controls are simple but Etherborn is by no means easy. At times, players will certainly find themselves stumped by the tricky, gravity-shifting puzzles but paying attention to small details like curves on the wall will certainly pay off. Within no time, I learned how many optical illusions Altered Matter has put into each level. Some big, some small. So, pay careful attention to every detail and you are bound to get through any obstacle.

I am extremely impressed by the graphics of Etherborn. The protagonist’s remarkable design will leave the player mesmerized and each unique environment leave them captivated. Despite these bubbly, 3D graphics, however, I can assure this game will be no easy ride. Prepare for a difficult journey and slip on your thinking cap! Luckily, this hard work does not go unnoticed. Players will be rewarded for their efforts with Steam achievements so keep up the hard work!

If players are looking for a puzzle game that will leave them puzzled, Etherborn is the right game for them. Offering a different world in each gravity-defying level, this game gives a refreshing take on how we perceive life both literally and metaphorically. So, take the plunge and glance at life from an alternate perspective. You might just learn something.
