Outright Games is bringing the giant robot fighting game based off the popular anime series to the American and European markets in cooperation with the developer CodeGlue. Zoids Wild: Blast Unleashed is a 3D fighting game starring the giant robot animals from the anime, Zoids Wild. This game was originally released in Japan, and is now open to the American and European markets. The roster was limited during the Japanese release, but now it is coming to us with all the characters already available—no need to buy DLC. It features 10 unique characters from the show, each fitted with their own Zoid. Through combat and unleashing your zoid’s hidden potential, you will fight the battle for Arashi’s Team Freedom against the Dark Metal Empire.

As a 3D fighting game, Zoids Wild: Blast Unleashed uses three axis of movement, making for a dynamic fighting experience. You will have to maneuver around your foes and time your attacks so you can punish their whiffed attacks. Each zoid has its own unique attacks, which can chain into combos. The learning curve is low, so it is friendly toward younger audiences, yet it is also complex enough for there to be room to learn and grow. The zoids themselves are varied enough to cater to different playstyles. Liger is fairly balanced, with slight emphasis on agility and attack power. Gannontoise, on the other hand, is much slower, but has more ranged options and better guarding options, making it great for players who like to turtle.

The Wild Blast mechanic also allows zoids to power up in various ways, either increasing their attack power, guard ability, agility, etc. The blast gauge fills as you take damage, so even if it looks like you are losing a fight, you can activate it and make a comeback. While the zoids of Dark Metal Empire have Wild Blast, they also have access to Dark Blast, which functions essentially the same as Wild Blast, but can be activated at any point in the game. The drawback is that it drains your health slowly over time, so it might be best to activate it early on and keep up the pressure. Luckily, the health-drain of Dark Blast won’t KO you on its own.

The story mode has 192 available missions, each offering its own challenges while raising the difficulty. Each story mission has its own score, so for fellow achievement hunters, the replay value comes from outperforming yourself, trying to end the fight as quickly as possible while trying not to take any damage. Playing through the story mode unlocks concept art, audio, and alternative skins for the zoids, which not only changes their color palette to suit your taste, but also augments their stats. There is also a classic arcade mode available, as well as a practice mode, so you can take the time to learn how to use each of the zoids and their own combos without interruption.

Zoids Wild: Blast Unleashed will be available for the Nintendo Switch on October 16th, 2020. For more information, and to pre-purchase the game, visit here: https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/zoids-wild-blast-unleashed-switch/
