As the summer draws to a close, and the world goes back to work, sometimes it is nice to just unwind after a busy day with a quick few round of an enjoyable game. Deleveled, by developer ToasterFuel and publisher The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild, is one of those games you could pop in from anywhere to 10 minutes to 2 hours and still garner the same amount of enjoyment. If you enjoy retro-styled puzzles, read on!
ToasterFuel’s Deleveled brings a delightful retro aesthetic to its momentum-based gameplay. I guess the best way to describe it is a polygon-based style similar to early Atari games, but with modern animation and a much nicer 8-bit soundtrack. It is fun, relaxing, and perfectly defines simple yet effective.
The gameplay, as mentioned, is momentum based. Players will control two cubes as you use them to flip switches, reach exits, and otherwise solve puzzles together. The better you do (e.g. a perfect three-star score means completing a puzzle in one go with no mistakes), the more you are rewarded with fun fireworks and stars everywhere as your puzzles zoom like Superman to the next stage! The tricky part that will train your brain is attempting to the solve the ever-increasing in difficulty puzzles without the use of a jump button.
Deleveled is completely momentum based – your speed and the distance in which you fall off of a ledge or platform will decide whether the bouncing (made by both boxes hitting each other from the other side of the floor) will be enough to propel you to your next destination. With the increase in challenge each level and chapter, you are sure to be brain drained, but satisfied, by the end of your session with the game.
Overall, Deleveled is a fantastic and charming little puzzle game that is perfect for either long or short gaming sessions, and comes at a perfect time as the world begins to shift, hopefully, back into normal gear in terms of life and work. Relaxing, yet engaging, Deleveled is a retro puzzle game that’s sure to challenge you, yet bring a smile to your face.

Steam Review
Your local neighborhood nutjob, gamer, and teacher! I'm an avid fan of many genres such as platformers, shooters, horror, etc. I am also an avid tabletop gamer - hugely into the worlds of Warhammer and all of their spinoffs. I'm a big believer in being objective - even if something is not my cup of tea, I want to talk about it on the objective level - is it well made, crafted with love, and with care for the fans? If so, that's a good game in my book for someone and well worth their hard earned dollarydoos!
