WITCH IT Review for Steam

Witch It, developed by Barrel Roll Games and published by Daedalic Entertainment, is a multiplayer hide & seek game set in a vibrant, whimsical, & magical world. Players can choose between playing as the brave hunters that seek out the hidden witches, or they can play as a witch and hide themselves as objects in the game. Each game pits witches against hunters, and hunters play the whole game as a hunter, but once a witch is caught, they then become a hunter.

This game is exciting on both sides, and the music and imagery makes the magical world come to life, and it really feels as if you’re participating in a witch hunt! Witches can transform into any object in the game, but they’re limited to a short amount of time to do so at the start of the game. Hunters throw potatoes and chickens at objects to reveal hidden witches, as well as body slam objects to reveal their true nature. This is probably the most fun I’ve had playing any form of hide and seek, especially since it’s all played in real time with other players on the servers. 

There are also events within the game that give you special skins and abilities for collecting certain objects during the timespan of the event. This is a game that I could keep playing for hours on end and not be bored. There are so many ways to play Witch It and every new game will be different than the last. Gain new skills and skins while gaining experience and leveling up your characters. You can even obtain new prop forms the longer you play and the more you unlock objects while playing.

There are multiple arenas to play in, which get voted on before each game. I’ve only played in a few of them so far, but there’s plenty of room to run around and cause havoc, as well as plenty of objects to turn into without getting caught right away. This is a fun game to play during Halloween-time, as well as year-round. The aesthetic of this game reminded me a bit of the Hansel and Gretel storyline, as well as the look of the witches and hunters. Even the witches’ cackle is spot on.

I would give Witch It an overall score of 9 out of 10, and I recommend playing it, it’s a lot of fun and the graphics are incredible! This game is challenging as far as finding the witches as a hunter and not getting caught as a witch, but all in all, it’s fairly easy to navigate and each game of hide & seek only lasts for three minutes, so there is plenty of opportunity to keep practicing! This is a fun and addicting game, in the best way!
