WORLD SPLITTER Preview for Steam

World Splitter, a game developed by NeoBird and published by Bumble3ee Interactive SL, is an interesting concept that breathes new life into 2D puzzle platformers. This is a preview copy of the game I received that gave a glimpse into the gameplay of this platformer. I jumped right into the game with a brief introduction that did not describe much of a story yet, however, expressed the intriguing aspect of the game.

World Splitter is based around the concept of two worlds, which you move between with moving your mouse from side to side. As the worlds are different from one being blue with beautiful asteroid animations coming down. While the other world is more of a desert that has a red-based background. The blue and red are a great contrast between the two worlds. The concept is moving between these worlds to get past obstacles that are in your way. That way you can capture all the creatures you need to gather. While in one world you might not see the creature if you move the mouse and change the world you see then you will see the creature. These creatures are also seen with a vibrating triangle, so you know where they are positioned even if they are in the other world. With moving between the two worlds, you collect all these creatures. This goes a step further later with rotating the maps instead of moving left to right which adds a whole new dimension to the game. The character you play as can only move left to right with no jumping mechanics now.

WORLD SPLITTER Preview for Steam

Well, first I enjoyed the mechanics and the overall vision of the game. It brought me back to a time when I was a kid as a lever platformer that made me rethink a couple of times. It kept me engaged as I wanted to see how it would evolve and change with the different stages and this is a great baseline for a game to start on. I enjoyed that you could obtain either bronze, silver, or gold with how quickly you can finish a stage. This even went into limiting how much you can rotate the screen with those stages so you could have a limit in how many rotations you can use to switch between worlds to obtain a higher rank. This is such a clever aspect to add because it adds so much replayability and will push players to obtain gold which they will want to play and master the stages. This will create a great challenge for many and keep players engage in a whole new manner; which I love as my competitiveness came out on a couple of stages with trying to obtain the best time and obtain the gold medal.

For people who love achievements, World Splitter has them.  I had an experience where I took a bit to take a drink and walk away from my desk. I obtained an achievement named Coffee Break as it noticed I was idle for one minute. A nice little achievement like this brings a smile to my face so I am looking forward to other achievements I obtain, and this will intrigue the achievement hunters that are out there. I loved the animations of the creatures and the main characters as it was not anything too special, but they had that charm that younger children would love, and adults will as well as it has that balance. There even is a multiplayer component that is perfect for children to jump into with friends and keep them engaged for hours. I played with my friend for a bit, and we had a great time with the mechanics.

Some aspects that I feel would push World Splitter even further would be adding some jumping aspects to the stages. I feel this could push the creativity of the levels even more and add aspects that could challenge players even more. Even adding another wrinkle with limiting the number of jumps so people that want to be challenged can have that to strive for. In turn, this would allow the game to have a wider audience with adults with the challenge of limit time, jumps, and rotation. This could even go into grappling on walls to be able to go to other parts of the stages. Even utilizing a teleporter or the ship we see at the beginning of the preview. I feel a teleporting aspect with fit the profile of the game and add another variety to the game that separates it from the competition in this genre of platformer. I feel this 2D platformer has a world of possibilities to jump into.

Overall, World Splitter is a game you need to keep your eye on. With mechanics that are intriguing and keep you engaged; With the extra added challenge of time and rotations that keep the competitive natured into the game; to the beautiful artwork and animations that one cannot help to keep enjoying.

Gaming has always been an outlet for me to interact with different people and explore all kinds of possibilities. I play a wide variety of games always willing to try different mechanics and storylines that developers are trying to create for their games. I grew up delving into MW2 and World of Warcraft, I miss the Wrath of The Lich King days, and as I have gotten older I have found a love for RPGs and strategy games, my favorites being The Witcher 3 and Total War. Always looking forward to the next great game.
