A Total War Saga: TROY, a strategy game developed by Creative Assembly and published by SEGA, released a new expansion this month called Mythos.
Mythos adds a mythological and fantasy take on the initial story of A Total War Saga: TROY, with addition to multiple mythical units and monsters added and new creature expeditions to be taken by the players. This was my first time playing A Total War Saga: TROY and witht he Mythos expansion, I feel the gameplay has been very exciting and interesting. I can’t even think of going back to playing the normal mode after trying out Mythos.
Mythos, as explained earlier, adds new monster expeditions that can be set by sending out a squad of strong troops. There are three monster expeditions available but only one expedition can be done during a playthrough. There is Cerberus, Leviathan, and Archgriffin. After sending out the troops on expedition every few turns the player gets to make choices on what action to take and that can affect the final combat against the monsters. On top of that, each type of creature that has been humanized in the normal campaign gets an actual fantasy/mythic version during Mythos playthrough. That includes the Centaurs or Cyclops or even Minotaur which can be added to the squad.
WIth addition to prayers and hectatombs that can be created for Gods, the overall gameplay in Mythos gives more of that Greek mythology vibe.
Overall, the gameplay of Mythos has been enhanced but also requires players to play the game strategically and not lose the focus on building the empire and relationships around it. Hence, the story of TROY can be played in a very unique way in addition to the amazing fantasy lore and beasts. There were some instances during the turn I found that a random clan had been hunting Griffin in our lands and because we destroyed the clan we were allowed to recruit lower griffins to the squads. Such random encounters go a long way and I love the way a lot of randomized events happen around the kingdom and how the decisions and politics play the role in the declaration of war.
I would like to rate A Total War Saga: TROY Mythos a solid 8.5/10, the only downside to me being that if you haven’t played the normal campaign and try to jump directly into Mythos it might be difficult to understand a lot of mechanics.
