WRC 10 Review for PlayStation 5

Growing up, I was never much of a car guy, but I always respected them and the car/racing video game genre. I’ve even had loads of fun playing many different racing games over the years. As far as simulators though, I’m very foreign to them. I’ve dabbled a bit in the Gran Turismo series, but to me as a gamer, I feel customizing every last bit of what’s inside the car takes away from the overall enjoyment of just playing the game itself. Having said this, I’m clearly not the target audience, because the avid fans of car simulators, the fun is in those details. To meticulously sculpt their dream cars from inside and out. When it comes to WRC 10, by NACON and KT Racing studio, the details they provided, I actually found to be a lot more interesting. Perhaps because they aren’t about what’s under the hood.

Having never played any of the previous games in the series, I cannot compare or contrast its flaws or improvements from past iterations. I will say, however, that with this simulator taking the approach of what these companies do as a business I thought was really cool. As you progress in the game, you are able to expand your manufacturer team. Each member of your driving team will possess skills to help you win races. There is a leveling system that gives you R&D skill points that will also factor in how much better you can upgrade your team, or hire new members.

WRC 10 Review for PlayStation 5

Like all good racing games, there is a large variety of tracks. Many I found to be quite beautiful and well designed. The difficulty of these racks varies, so if you feel like you are struggling there is a good selection of difficulty options that I found rather impressive. All of which is to help the gamer get the most enjoyment out of this experience. While some of the tracks do look nice as I said, for some reason, even for a PS5 game, I felt the graphics were a bit subpar compared to many of its competitors on the market.

Luckily, many of the other aspects you come to love with the PS5 shine brightly here. The DualSense is quickly becoming a revelation, and the development team over at Kylotonn did a fantastic job at utilizing what the controller has to offer. Playing an extreme condition event, you can feel tires struggling in mud with the adaptive triggers. You can hear the splashes of rain coming out of the controller. The vibrations just added to the simulation experience in a fantastic way.

WRC 10 has a lot to offer with its cool modes, detailed information (such as what your reputation levels are between different car manufacturers), and the ability to make you feel like you are progressing with its very rewarding upgrades. While not the most graphically impressive, the time was better spent making the game itself a very solid product. This genre is still not really for me, but I think there will be a lot to like here for fans of the franchise and racing simulators.

Gaming since I was given an original Nintendo as a kid. I love great storytelling and unique ingenuity. When both collide in a single game, I'm a happy gamer. Twitter/IG @NickNavarro87
