Atari Announces BREAKOUT BEYOND, the Newest Installment in the Breakout Franchise

Breakout Beyond, a lively new reinterpretation of the series that asks players to break through to the other side, was just launched by publisher Atari and developer Choice Provisions, the studio behind BIT.TRIP. This new addition to Breakout lore, which will be available on PC and console later this year, will test players’ ability to not only smash every brick but also to breach the wall ingeniously using score-building combos. Breakout Beyond offers a brand-new sideways viewpoint, 72 levels for players to conquer, and two-player cooperative play so that you may experience the intense brick-breaking with a teammate.

Check out the Breakout Beyond Announcement by Atari trailer:

In this neon-infused version of the iconic arcade game from 1976, players must clear bricks to get to the end of each challenge. But, literally, the script has been turned upside down! Now, players advance sideways, overcoming obstacles and accumulating combos that increase the effects’ intensity and reward the best players with a stunning light display. Strong benefits come from breaking unique blocks, such as enormous blasts that clear bricks, a barrier that protects the ball, and a laser gun that forges a route ahead. Each one unleashes breathtaking dynamic effects, producing breathtaking images that have never been seen in Breakout.

Players’ brick-blasting abilities will be tested to the limit in these 72 difficult levels, but they won’t have to face the difficulty alone. Block-breakers can avoid going it alone by joining a friend in local two-player cooperative games and tackling the chaos together. A new concentrate mode, on the other hand, slows down time in exchange for more control and a higher score.

Breakout Beyond Key Features:

  • Unlockable infinite mode featuring a worldwide internet leaderboard
  • There are seventy-two difficult stages that will test players’ ability to break bricks
  • Co-op for two players to control (or intensify) the mayhem with a companion
  • Audio and visual effects that are procedurally applied and get more intense with each combination

Originally planned as an Amico Intellivision exclusive in 2020, Atari consented to purchase and finish the game’s development. Ethan Stearns, Senior Director of Games Publishing at Atari, stated, “We’re excited to be able to bring this gem to our players.” “The team believed it was an excellent idea that gave the formula a whole new twist while maintaining the core gameplay elements of Breakout. We’re excited to see what crazy combinations brick-breakers will create in Breakout Beyond, a deserving addition to the Breakout canon.”

Later this year, Breakout Beyond will be available on PC, Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4|5, and Atari VCS.
