Greetings Gamers! Greg here from Gaming Cypher ready to bend your ear, or eye, in this case, about the newest version of a fan favorite, Killing Floor 3. Here at Gaming Cypher we got a chance to be included in the closed beta for the latest game. Though the game is being released by the same developer, Tripwire Interactive, there have already been mixed reactions to the huge changes made to Killing Floor 2.
Killing Floor 3 offers a new specialist system for players to diversify their play as well as a push toward modern shooter movement systems. The specialist system tries to give players different special abilities, unique skills, and guns for these characters. But not all the gameplay changes are positive; sadly, many of the guns seem to lack the visceral experience that made Killing Floor 2 special. Once the guns felt powerful with noticeable knockback when dealing damage to the Zed and blowing pieces off of these enemies, but now combat seems a little too streamlined, simply painting surfaces red like a zombie Splatoon game. Killing Floor 3 feels much more like a Call of Duty or Apex game, though, as it now features the aforementioned push for modern movement, clean aesthetics, and in-game purchases.
Changes to the game aside, in my experience the current beta version does not run very well. I reduced the game settings to the lowest possible and still experienced lag, rubberbanding, and crashes. Unfortunately, I’ve heard many have had similar encounters with the game. There is good news though. The team at Tripwire is taking more time to address these problems before release, and they have pushed release off to later in 2025. Killing Floor 3 still has time to fix performance issues, make some areas of the game slightly moodier with darker atmospheres, and increase the gore across the board.
Killing Floor 3 has the potential to be the best of the games still if they lean into the franchise’s legacy. It’s too early to tell what the final release version of the game will be, so keep it all decoded here with Gaming Cypher for any upcoming updates.
Killing Floor 3 is being developed for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (through Steam and the Epic Games Store) and will release later in 2025.
