The Interstate Scholastic Esports Alliance (ISEA) and Nintendo of America are collaborating to improve the social, accessible, and lucrative aspects of gaming competitions. Beginning this fall, over 80,000 elementary, middle, and high school students in 23 states will participate in school-organized tournaments and events using the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Splatoon 3 games for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model systems. Nintendo of America and the ISEA are thrilled to present a new opportunity for students to get together for friendly competition. Nintendo will give away a lot of free digital game download coupons and Nintendo Switch Online memberships as part of the collaboration.

ISEA President Danielle Johnson stated, “We are so excited to partner with Nintendo as we continue to grow and expand competitive gaming opportunities for students across the country. Games are a fun, communal experience. We want to make gaming accessible to as many students as possible regardless of their previous gaming experience. School-based gaming programs connect students that may have not been involved in social competitive activities before, and every student deserves a place to belong at school. These programs not only raise student attendance and achievement but also help students build healthy relationships that can last a lifetime.”
Nintendo of America restructured their official guidelines and application page for organizers of individual competitive gaming events in November 2023. The objective was to simplify and increase transparency in the process of holding small-scale, non-profit community tournaments featuring titles for which Nintendo holds the copyright. An active and cohesive gaming community may be developed and maintained in part through this collaboration with the ISEA.
Bill Trinen, Vice President of Player and Product Experience at Nintendo of America said, “We support kids who want to celebrate their passion – or discover a new passion – by getting involved in memorable cooperative and competitive play experiences. Working closely with the ISEA ensures that we are creating a fun experience that is open to everyone.”
