“Dave The Diver: In The Jungle” DLC Review by Nick Navarro
Three years after “Dave The Diver” first made waves (you can check out my review of the base game HERE), Mintrocket has returned with what may be the game’s most ambitious expansion yet. Rather than simply adding a handful of new fish, recipes, and quests to the familiar waters of the Blue Hole, “Dave The Diver: In The Jungle” pushes the adventure into entirely new territory. The result is a content-packed DLC that feels less like an add-on and more like the next major chapter in Dave’s ongoing story. One of the biggest challenges any expansion faces is finding a way to introduce new content without losing what made the original experience so enjoyable. Thankfully, “In the Jungle” succeeds almost immediately. Dave and his crew leave the ocean behind to investigate strange happenings connected to the village of Utara, opening the door to an adventure that trades saltwater exploration for an entirely new freshwater ecosystem. It’s a significant shift in setting, but one that feels surprisingly natural within the established world.
The freshwater lake quickly becomes the star attraction. While the Blue Hole remains one of gaming’s most memorable environments, the new ecosystem manages to carve out its own identity. New creatures, ingredients, and environmental hazards ensure that exploration never feels like a simple reskin of previous content. Every dive carries the same sense of curiosity and discovery that made the original game so compelling, but now there’s an added excitement that comes from venturing into completely unfamiliar territory. What constantly loved throughout the DLC was how carefully paced everything feels. Mintrocket introduces new mechanics, systems, and objectives at a steady rate, allowing players to absorb each addition without feeling overwhelmed. Considering just how much content is packed into this expansion, that balance is remarkable. New features are layered into the experience naturally, ensuring there’s always something fresh to discover without disrupting the core gameplay loop that fans already know and love.

Utara Village serves as the social heart of the expansion and provides a welcome change of pace between dives. Building relationships with the villagers adds another layer of progression beyond simply gathering ingredients and completing objectives. The residents feel like meaningful additions to Dave’s world rather than temporary quest-givers created solely for DLC content. Watching the village gradually open up as relationships develop creates a satisfying sense of connection that strengthens the overall narrative. Of course, food remains a major focus of the experience, and Bancho Grill receives plenty of attention throughout the adventure. The introduction of new jungle ingredients creates opportunities for fresh menu options and culinary experimentation. One of the enduring strengths of “Dave The Diver” has always been how seamlessly it blends wildly different gameplay systems together, and that remains true here. Diving, exploration, restaurant management, and character interactions continue to complement one another beautifully.
The story itself provides a strong incentive to keep moving forward. Without venturing into spoiler territory, the mystery at the center of the jungle adventure offers enough intrigue to maintain momentum across the DLC’s substantial runtime. Ancient ruins, hidden secrets, and unexplored corners of the jungle continually pull the player deeper into the experience. There is a genuine sense of adventure present throughout the campaign, with each discovery leading naturally into the next. What makes “In The Jungle” particularly impressive is the sheer volume of creativity on display. Many expansions settle for offering more of the same, but this DLC consistently introduces new ideas. Whether it’s exploring fresh environments, interacting with new characters, or uncovering previously unseen aspects of the world, the expansion rarely relies on repetition. The amount of effort that has clearly gone into making the jungle feel distinct from previous content is evident in nearly every aspect of the design.
The DLC’s length is another major selling point. With well over ten hours of content available, you are getting an experience that rivals many standalone releases. In fact, there were several moments where I found myself forgetting that this was technically an expansion rather than a full sequel. The scope is simply that large. For longtime fans who have been eager to spend more time with Dave and his companions, there is an enormous amount of value here. Perhaps the highest compliment I can give “Dave The Diver: In The Jungle” is that it captures everything that made the original game special while confidently expanding upon it. The charm, humor, exploration, and addictive progression systems all remain intact, yet the expansion never feels content to simply repeat familiar ideas. Instead, it builds upon them in meaningful ways that make the entire package feel larger and richer.
Mintrocket described “In The Jungle” as the biggest celebration yet for “Dave The Diver’s” third anniversary, and after spending time with it, that claim feels fully justified. This is a substantial, thoughtfully designed expansion that delivers both quality and quantity in equal measure. The new setting is memorable, the content is plentiful, and the sense of adventure remains as strong as ever. For existing fans, this is an easy recommendation and an essential addition to an already outstanding game. More importantly, it demonstrates that Mintrocket still has plenty of creative ideas left for Dave’s world. “Dave The Diver: In The Jungle” doesn’t merely fill the gap until whatever comes next, it feels like a major event in its own right, offering a wild, charming, and thoroughly enjoyable journey that stands among the best DLC releases in recent memory.
DLC: 9/10
