2D platforming goes viral in*prog.1 — a new hardcore platformer launching on June 23rd
In prog.1, the player is a sentient computer virus that wreaks havoc on a budding digital world. Surviving deletion will require superhuman reflexes and jumping skills.
Created by Vector Arcade and published by new indie label Groupees Interactive, prog.1 tells the story of a sentient computer virus that threatens the mysterious G.Ai.A project. Doctors Keiko and Cushing, responsible for accidentally releasing the virus, now must race against time to eradicate the infection… or G.Ai.A will be lost forever.
prog.1 Gameplay
There are several different platform types in prog.1. Small square platforms will disappear on contact; rectangular platforms will immediately disintegrate and reappear later; and large square platforms degenerate as long as the virus is touching them, but regenerate if left alone. There are also platforms that explode … and elevators that trigger on contact. The hazards in each of prog.1’s 48 levels demand nerves of steel and superior motor skills if players have any hope to get through them:
Exhibit #1: Running and jumping away from the horrifying “deletion wall.”
Exhibit #2: Dodging dangerous static waves, which are definitely NOT virus-friendly.
Some may think prog.1 is just too easy (we’ll assume they live by the sage’s words, “git gud”). In that case, such players can put their skills to the test on any of prog.1’s extra game modes. In “100 Lives” mode, they can try to beat the entire game with just 100 lives. In the mood for a torturous time? Brave souls can try completing the game without dying in “1 Life” mode. Speedsters can find out how fast they can complete prog.1’s story in “Speed Run” mode.
“Double Jump” mode is here for those who keep getting wiped by the sysadmin. The ability to double jump is granted — which should make things a bit easier, if not necessarily *easy.* On the plus side, the player will not be tagged as “virus dog” or any other humiliating label. (Ninja Gaiden Black, we’re looking at you!)
