VALKYRIE CONNECT does what few mobile games do: give massive amounts of free content. Each day gives you new login bonuses, special deals and missions. You spend the majority of the time sorting though rewards and crafting the most optimal experience for yourself. And with the developer’s partnership with Type-Moon, owner of the Fate/Stay Night franchise, even more content lies beyond the horizon.
Ateam’s VALKYREI CONNECT is a free-to-play mobile RPG for iOS and Android devices that brings plenty of hours of game play to the table. You play as a champion chosen by a sacred weapon. This weapon summons heroes and items based off of Norse mythology. These heroes then quest to defeat the forces of evil. Although the premise seems simple, you have many quests, events, raids, and gear to manage.
The actual mission and battle system of the game takes the least amount of play time. After tapping on the begin mission button, one just needs to watch their heroes use auto attacks. On some occasions you activate special attacks, but even that step is unnecessary: right next to the special attack gauges is an auto-special button. As a whole, the combat is serviceable at best, but the appeal of the game lies outside of the fighting.
While the combat itself is automatic, one can still fail missions. The most important part of the game lies in preparing your heroes. Fortunately, one does not need to grind. The leveling system of the heroes is based off of a currency called mana, which is given freely. Levels cap depending on how much you have played the game. Some mission rewards also power up your heroes. These rewards help unlock more gear slots for heroes. The best feature the missions are quick tickets, which allow you to mass clear the same mission over and over again for no time at all.
Even more vital than hero levels and mission rewards are weapons and accessories. It took me a few days to realize just how much of a power spike these items give. Before I understood how item re-forging and leveling worked, my tank was almost useless. With the right gear, however, she has become one of my most powerful units.
Getting all these items and heroes is a snap. The game has two forms of currency: mana and diamonds. As stated earlier, mana can be used to level, but it can also be used to buy gear and basic heroes. You are given five free mana summons a day, but you also get plenty of mana to spend as you see fit. Diamonds unlock more powerful items and characters, and you get one free diamond summon a day. The game gives you a steady flow of diamonds each day though log-in bonuses, quest rewards, and mission completions.
As a whole, VALKYRIE CONNECT holds plenty of content, and I enjoyed learning about the many systems placed inside the game. Sometimes the sheer amount of options and events leave you dazed, but more often than not you find joy in discovering everything the game has to offer. I only wish that the combat had a bit more shine to it. I give the game a 7.5/10 for its vast amount of rewards and heroes.
