Video games have earned a lot of popularity in the past couple of decades, and gamers often see it like sports. Since there is some competition in the gaming world, someone, at some point, came with the idea of organizing world tournaments. Such competitions have tens of millions of fans all over the world, which is why these events became an opportunity for gaming enthusiasts, amateurs or pros, to come together every year and test their abilities to play. Excitement, nervous players, and millions of dollars in pool prizes are what make these events so appealing. Here are the tournaments to watch in the upcoming year.
Evolution Championship Series
The EVO fighting game tournament gathers millions of fans across the world every year. We have no reason to believe that this year is going to be any different. The most epic battles are played every year since the event’s inception, without spilling any actual blood, of course. You can compete yourself if you believe that you are good enough, or you can watch other pros killing it at Super Smash Brother Melee, The Ultimate Marvels vs. Capcom 3, and of course, Street Fighter. In 2018, the finals will take place in Las Vegas between the 3rd and the 5th of August. But since this is Las Vegas we are talking about, fighting games are not the only ones you can enjoy.
League of Legends
The year’s calendar is incomplete without a LOL tournament. The game’s reputation exceeds anything you can think of in the gaming world. As a result, in 2017, about 60 million people watched, online or live, how 24 teams fought to the death for the title of World LOL Champion. The 1 million dollar prize pool was not forgotten either. We expect that the LOL tournament in 2018 brings at least the same numbers as last year. However, you need to stay tuned because the venue is yet to be announced. All we know is that the competition will take place in October.
BlizzCon
If you did not attend any of Blizzard Entertainment’s events until now, you have to at least once in your life. You will find a bit of everything. It is a gaming convention, as well as a gaming competition. You also get to enjoy rock concerts, and developers find this event to be a fantastic opportunity to promote gaming franchises. The program is pretty exciting, and I am sure you want to be a part of it. The vent takes place I Anaheim California, which I am sure you will enjoy. The favorite games are Hearthstone, Diablo, Overwatch, and Warcraft, but you can also enjoy the numerous theme parks the location offers.
DreamHack
Last but definitely not least, DreamHack is calling itself the largest LAN party that ever existed. The Swedish conventions are on to move every year, and the players can enjoy both hot and cold locations. The winter event took place in Jonkoping, Sweden in December 2017, but you will be able to enjoy it in Austin. You get to enjoy tournaments in several disciplines, live concerts and let’s not forget about the remarkable side events. It is definitely something you should keep your eyes on.
All in all, gaming tournaments happen all over the world, and you can attend them all if you have the resources. On the more practical side of things, do not forget that international traveling requires some planning. For one, you may need a visa. Even so, you have plenty of time to get ready for some epic fun.
