We got the hands-on impression on Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night demo, which is developed by ArtPlay and DICO, and published by 505 Games. I personally haven’t tried the previous Bloodstained game in the series, but this demo provided an interesting insight on the game.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a 2.5D side scrolling game. Bloodstained is a full exploration game that started with a female protagonist. It was kind of tough to look for controls when I tried to play with the keyboard as the mapping was not shown in the controls. Once I used a controller for the game, it worked fine. The game starts on a ship and you have to move around to find the exit. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is more of an exploration as the map gets updated as you move through the new areas.
There are enemy mobs that you have kill. The game has bunch of different weapons that you can equip, but only one at a time and each has a different attack type. There are shards that you can randomly get, each shard has a different attack which uses the player’s MP. Some are directional shards that can be shot, some are trigger shard that are more of attacks. Each enemy randomly drops the shard based on the enemy’s attack type. There are mini bosses throughout each level and then you get to kill the final boss using different attack styles. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night keeps getting more and more interesting as it introduces equipment and crafting it, as any material picked up previously can be used to craft the items. I did notice that if the player moves back to a previously visited location, you can encounter the same enemies again even if you killed them previously. This can help in leveling up the character more or a chance to get enemy specific shard if you previously were not able to get it.
In my opinion, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is really interesting on its own, because of vast 2.5D open world and exploration, and also the content in the game. I am really looking forward and hopeful for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night after playing the demo.
