The in-game terrain for Tombwater, a 2D souls-like action role-playing game that will be released on PC via Steam later this year, was shown by publisher Midwest Games and solo dev Max Mraz. The map provides a comprehensive overview of almost 20 different biomes that players will go across in typical Metroidvania fashion, demonstrating the enormity of what lies ahead. Be prepared to explore several places at any moment, some of which will need you to acquire new skills, acquire goods, or defeat bosses.

Max Mraz, lead developer at Moth Atlas stated, “We were having so much fun exploring what could be in each area that we didn’t realize how big the map was growing,. We got together one evening to play through the game’s main path — and, six hours later, we weren’t even halfway through! The world map here doesn’t even touch on Tombwater’s various mines, sewers, tunnels, or Lost City deep in the heart of the mountain.”
The Spanish Fort is explored in the free demo, which is now available, albeit it only uses 5% of the game’s large geography. Mraz’s shared a direct comparison to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, one of the map’s main influences, to further highlight the immensity of the area. Players may anticipate 20 to 25 hours of playtime at launch, filled with Eldritch monsters and the secrets they want to hide.
