Founder of California-based Charity and its Assets Join AbleGamers to Further Enhance Disability Support Through Gaming
Harpers Ferry, WV (November 28, 2016) – AbleGamers – the leading charity and organization wielding the power of gaming to break down the barriers of economic and social isolation for people with disabilities – is honored to announce it has acquired The Get-Well Gamers Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to bringing the benefits of electronic entertainment to children’s hospitals for stress-relief and pain management. The Get-Well Gamers Foundation Founder and President Ryan Sharpe additionally joins the AbleGamers Advisory Board, leveraging his established network to enhance AbleGamers’ ability to support those with disabilities through gaming.
“For more than a decade, Ryan and The Get-Well Gamers Foundation have done a lot of good for those in need of emotional and physical care,” said Mark Barlet, Founder and Executive Director of AbleGamers. “We are happy to continue Ryan’s work under the AbleGamers banner. We’re proud to include his network of contacts and facilities so we can carry on our mutual mission to ensure everyone can game, and to empower those with temporary and long-term disabilities through the power of gaming.”

Founded in 2001 by Ryan Sharpe, The Get-Well Gamers Foundation annually served more than a million children with illnesses and disabilities at more than 250 hospitals and treatment facilities worldwide. The Get-Well Gamers Foundation leveraged donations from video game developers, publishers and the public to provide gaming care packages to assist with pain management and provide stress-relieving entertainment to patients. Gaming goods included video games, consoles and accessories.
Effective immediately, AbleGamers has absorbed The Get-Well Gamers Foundation’s assets, allowing for ongoing support of their established network of care facilities. AbleGamers carries on The Get-Well Gamers Foundation mission through its own Expansion Pack program, which includes comprehensive care packages of assistive gaming technologies donated to disabled gamers, complete with setup, usage, and maintenance support.
