As the closed beta of the cross-platform sandbox MMORPG Albion Online draws closer, developer Sandbox Interactive continues its open communication with the Albion community by regularly publishing updates on development progress. Their latest developer blog post State of the Game – September gives an overview of graphics and gameplay features as well as important changes they have been busy implementing into the Albion universe over the past month.
In addition to already announced graphical developments such as the multi-character login-screen, the firewall and the firecone, the developers introduced an overhaul of the world map by adding new icons to improve the overall visual look and feel.
Sandbox Interactive revealed a completely revamped armor system. From now on, armor above Tier 4 will be split in subcategories – light, medium and heavy – requiring the developers to create many new armor graphics and modify the existing ones. Likewise, a whole new set of models and work animations were created for the new hirable non-player characters for resource collection, the Laborers.
As for gameplay, after completing countless internal tests, both the combat and skillshot systems have been rebalanced, resulting in a far more balanced experience. The introduction of Warcamps will spice up the guild versus guild combat and with the new dueling system in place, Albion Online will offer an additional playground for small-scale PvP. Players will also get to enjoy more tactical variety with the addition of a bunch of neat new spells. Finally, Albion Online received the long-awaited multi-language support, which will definitely improve the communication experience within the remarkably international community.
