Intro: The newest installment to the Angry Birds series is finally here! Come and experience Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs by developer Resolution Games and publisher Rovio firsthand and slingshot a couple of birds while you’re at it. This unique installment features an all new look filled with engaging and interacting visuals that distinguishes this release from the rest of the series.
What’s New? I’ve played several forms of Angry Birds, but I have to say I’m most impressed with this version. It features an all new immersive gameplay that really brings the game to you. The camera usage is the biggest addition I’ve noticed. It uses the rear camera to display the background for the game, so you must play on a flat surface. It was very interesting to see birds being catapulted across my room while I was playing. The developers have also widened up the whole view of the game so users can now experience a 360-degree view of the game.
Gameplay/Graphics: In terms of gameplay, Angry Birds AR sticks to the original mechanics we all know and love. It consists of a very simple experience that you can control with one hand. The numerous stages and birds keep the gameplay fresh and not so redundant throughout. There is a nice feeling of satisfaction when watching the building towers slowly tumble down. The added camera angles, background, and character animations adds a more engaging gameplay experience to the user. However, with this immersive experience comes with a few drawbacks. The function of a camera is needed for this game and it can’t be played while moving. The fact that I had to play this game while being stationary was a bit frustrating due to my nature to usually play IOS apps on the go, but the overall fun I had playing it was worth it.
Verdict: I believe Angry Birds AR is a strong game and should set the tone for what’s to come from this franchise. I like the direction I see this heading in and would like more immersive gameplay from the developers. However, I think some small kinks should be worked out and more detail should be provided to really make Angry Birds AR a must play game.
Pros: Immersive, Quickplay, Strategic/Simple, Theme, All Ages, 360 Camera View, Levels
Cons: Advertisements, Stationary, Calibration Issues, Limited Game Modes, Lack of Options
