Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration New DLC Features 19 Playable Games and 8 Video Segments

A major addition has been announced for Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration, in collaboration with developer Digital Eclipse and Atari. The Wider World of Atari delves deeply into stories from Atari history, demonstrating how the company has influenced fans and artists throughout the years. It features eight video segments and 19 playable games in an entirely new timeline. On PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Series S|X, and PlayStation 4 and 5, the DLC will be accessible. As part of an update, owners of the original game for the Atari VCS will get the DLC content for free.

This Wednesday, September 25, at 10:00 AM EST on YouTube, MetalJesusRocks, who has teamed up with Atari for the announcement, will unveil the 19 new games.

The Wider World of Atari has previously unreleased interviews, classic advertisements, historical relics, and more—all meticulously curated and presented in the distinctive manner of Digital Eclipse. Highlights from the new timeline include uncommon and underappreciated innovations and hidden gems from the late 1980s; an examination of the role played by fans in locating unreleased prototypes, making “homebrew” games, and preserving Atari history; and a focus on artist Evelyn Seto, who contributed to the creation of the iconic “Fuji” Atari logo. Al Alcorn, the creator of Pong, also explains the origins of Breakout.

On Sunday, September 29, at Portland Retro Gaming Expo (PRGE), fans may join a panel discussion with Digital Eclipse Producer Chris Kohler, Atari VP of Games Ethan Stearns, and Atari Founder Nolan Bushnell to learn more about the DLC and the Atari 50: Anniversary Celebration project.

The First Console War, the second DLC, will be made available worldwide on November 8 in conjunction with the $39.99 physical release of Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration Expanded Edition on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. Both of the DLCs and the base game are included in the physical edition.

For $49.99 USD, a Steelbook edition of the Nintendo Switch system will be available that includes miniature arcade marquee signs, art cards from the Atari 2600, and a business card replica from Syzygy Co. by Al Alcorn.
