Story
In AVICII Invector Encore Edition, you join a young courier on her mission across the stars. As you play through an amazing assortment of some of Avicii’s most popular works, you reveal more and more of our quirky courier’s adventure. Her story is told in a selection of voice-acted still graphics that, while sometimes comes off as flat, is told with all the fun and personality the game has to offer.
Gameplay & Mechanics
AVICII Invector Encore Edition takes the same patterns as musical greats like Rock Band and Tap Tap Revenge, but adds extra layers that add to the experience of flying through a rhythmic acid trip. As all games of its kind, while grooving to the chosen track, you press the buttons that correspond to that which is highlighted on the screen. While AVICII Invector Encore Edition is packaged as a rhythm game, its key secret is a memory game. While not a bad thing, it can be somewhat jarring how some of the commands don’t seem to adhere to the beat or pattern of the particular song you may be flying through, but instead have a pre-designed structure that takes quick reflexes and a sharp memory to grasp.
As you smash away and stack up those combos, you’ll notice your ship blasting through the stage faster and faster, requiring pinpoint accuracy to keep up your streak. You can also trigger your hyper boost to blast through at top speed, racking up even more points for each perfectly timed beat. While overall an amazing experience, using a single joy con during multiplayer can add an additional layer of difficulty due to the size of the controller. Nothing that can’t be overcome.
Aesthetics & Sound
This. Game. Is. Beautiful. Both audio and video quality are astounding on the Nintendo Switch: even better when connected to your home theater system. The music in this game takes care of itself. The visuals add an extra layer to an already fantastic style of game. The beats themselves are color coded, bright, and easy to respond to. Hello There Games did an amazing job making sure the visuals fit with the magic of this amazing artist.

AVICII Invector Encore Edition is a fun, fast-paced game with amazing art and even more amazing music. Hello There Games has built a world where you can compete against the world’s high scores or kick back with friends in the comfort of your own home. The gaming loop is addictive and intoxicating as it commands you to master every track. There are hours of fun to be had here. In honor of an amazing artist, get ready for an amazing ride.
