Greetings gamers, Greg Vander Velde here to talk to you about Chivalry 2 from Torn Banner Studios. This game is a follow up to a fairly popular original medieval slasher and brings to life more battlefield action, and now offering your choice of first or third person combat. If you’ve played the first installment, you know that it’s going to be something you can just pick up and play without a huge amount of hours of practice unlike Morghau, but that doesn’t mean you will be the top knight just because you can jump in and have fun right away. It’s going to take some time to master your battle prowess.
On your way to mastering your skills with this online armored brawler, you’ll have many class options and loadouts to choose from and even more to unlock along the way. The nice thing, though, is they all happen to be fun; many times I thought I had a favorite, but ended up changing on every spawn because they are all just so fun. I might be giving away what’s under my armor at the onset, but the biggest take away is that this game is just simply fun. It’s not the game you will pull out when you want a long story driven emotional experience, but it is one you can keep going back to just to have fun.
Chivalry 2 is a massive scale 64 player objective-based battle that takes place on huge sprawling maps and many classic style medieval locations. Decide your enemies’ fate as you knock down their castle gate, pillage in a village, or become your enemies’ bane as you let the arrows rain. It’s all possible in the cinematic carnage brought to you in Chivalry 2, all while looking good with their new well rendered graphics powered by unreal engine 4 despite the huge battle’s scale. That’s not to mention the revamped combat system that feels weighty and fast. Offering very fluid and immersive combat where you can chain attacks, parry, and repost or block with a shield and throw your weapon the next moment. If you find yourself without a weapon, never fear because the battle grounds are covered with interactive objects to give a sandbox feel. Pick up a branding iron, candle stick holder, or even a chicken! Beat your enemies with a flaming chicken and send them home to roost with the fury of your flaming roast. While you have them on the run, pour salt in their wounds with a whole new roster of fun and silly battle boasts.
If you’re a fan of medieval combat and want to take up arms with some armored allies this might just be the game for you. It is just simply a fun game. I see myself coming back to it many times. Sometimes when I really want to listen to an audio book or podcast I like to play a game that just brings me joy, but doesn’t demand my full attention and this is one that can be that for me personally. Maybe I’m alone in this, but I’m always on the lookout for a game like this. Chivalry 2 earns an 8/10 for distilling the fun of combat with none of the pain and suffering.
