Circadian City truly lives up to its objective of being a game where you play out the most boring parts of life – everyday menial tasks!
A slice of life sim that is one half Minecraft-styled collection and one-half survival game, Nowhere Studios’ Circadian City stars your custom avatar as you move away from your cozy hometown to the big city – and all of the pros and cons that provides. In your daily life, you will have to contend with not starving, needing sleep, and needing to fulfil your happiness quota by making these things called friends, and maybe even by having a romantic love life (but as the developers said, “it’s complicated”).
Energy is requited to perform actions such as work (which you need for money) and chatting with others (which you need for happiness). The gameplay is pretty laidback and lets you take the reigns for as much and as little as you would like. This is especially prevalent in the second half of the game – the dreamscape.
In the dreamscape, your characters recall their childhood fantasies and whimsical nature where everything is possible. Life getting in the way of doing something cool in the real world? Create it and unwind in the dream world! It is a pretty cool dual dynamic that I have never really seen in a sim before.
Circadian City is honestly probably not the game for someone like myself – I am not big on day to day simulators, as it feels like work when I want to unwind from work. But for fans of games such as Animal Crossing, The Sims, and various visual novel and their unique stories, Circadian City may be the right game for you. I especially feel that Animal Crossing was a big influence as the sound effects remind of it immensely – we’re only missing Mr. Resetti! If inventive dreamscapes, toiling through day to day burdens of life and survival, and charming presentations appeal to you – definitely give the game a chance!

Your local neighborhood nutjob, gamer, and teacher! I'm an avid fan of many genres such as platformers, shooters, horror, etc. I am also an avid tabletop gamer - hugely into the worlds of Warhammer and all of their spinoffs. I'm a big believer in being objective - even if something is not my cup of tea, I want to talk about it on the objective level - is it well made, crafted with love, and with care for the fans? If so, that's a good game in my book for someone and well worth their hard earned dollarydoos!
