Owlcat Games launched the alpha of their upcoming CRPG Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy for PC via Steam in late December 2025, gaining positive reactions from both players and media.

So far, almost 10,000 acolytes have joined the Alpha, and thousands of them have contributed insightful comments on social media or in the official poll. The most noteworthy facts are now included in new infographics published by the Adeptus Administratum.
Even though 77% of players chose to begin their acolyte careers on normal level, they nevertheless faced many severe battles. The hardest encounter was one that involved a friend in an abandoned mine.

Apropos companions: The Inquisition deemed the deserted Ogryn Cogg to be the most valuable friend once he showed his value! He protects his superiors by acting as a living shield in addition to crushing his adversaries into pulp. A genuine demonstration of devotion to the Inquisition and selflessness!

Additionally, players made sure their team was well-equipped by purchasing over 17,000 medical kits, melta charges, and ropes to either blow through or strategically bypass obstacles.
It should come as no surprise that acolytes were concerned about both security and style. During the alpha, the most useful item was the fashionable Machine Gunner’s Boots, which reduced fire damage without sacrificing style.

By buying the Collector’s Edition or the Developer’s Digital Pack on the website, new players can still participate in the Dark Heresy alpha. The alpha will remain open for a few months so that players can devise new strategies to mold their own path as Inquisition acolytes and the devs can gather further feedback.
While the alpha and future beta of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy are only playable on PC, at launch the game will be available on Windows PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, and consoles via PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
