Greetings Gamers – Greg here to tell you about Dying Light 2 Stay Human from the Developer Techland, who also made the first Dying Light game. If you are anything like me, you love zombies and have a long-running obsession with parkour making this game a fantastic confluence of things that are loved. I played and loved the first game years ago when it came out. It’s obvious so did the developers because for the last 6 years they have been working on expanding the Dying Light universe with updates and expansion packs to the original game and now with Dying Light 2 much of the team remains the same. Whether you have played the previous game or not, you can jump into this installment if it sounds like the kind of roof hopping action you are looking for since this game takes place 20 years in the future from the last game in a post-apocalyptic world. The people remaining in the Dying Light 2 world may not be the lucky ones, though, since the virus has mutated and created even more dangerous monsters.
In Dying Light 2, you play as Aiden, a Pilgrim, who has been moving between settlements doing delivery jobs and the like for other survivors. Most Survivors look down on Pilgrims though seeing them as a dangerous risk not worth letting into their safe zones, but they do fulfill a need of the people in the havens of safety. Though Aiden’s true quest is to find his sister, whom he’s been separated from for many years, and to make matters worse, he is experiencing serious memory loss from the times he was last with his sister. His travels lead him to the last remaining city of Villedor, where there just may be some clues as to where she is now.
Dying Light offers players the chance to make the story their own, though with choices you can make along the way. Siding with different factions allows for different alliances and perks changing how the story unfolds. Players can choose to make compassionate choices siding with their big hearts or lean into their survival of the fittest instincts. The team really has gone above and beyond creating a boasted 500+ hours of content while the main storyline should only take players about 20 hours or about 80 to complete main and side quests.
Gameplay
The game offers a skill tree and allows you to gain experience in multiple areas making the choice of what to level up slightly easier, as you gain experience points in multiple areas at a time. The more you use a specific skill, the faster the XP grows for that category giving you a more custom gaming experience. Weapons can also be upgraded based on how you like to play because weapons can be fitted with multiple upgrades at a time giving you really fun zombie-killing tools to play around with.
The clothes you equip also can be customized to how each player prefers to play the game with a few different class types associated with each garment. The devs of Dying Light 2 have said that they added 600 parkour moves these might be subtle and things players can do without realizing, but, however many more they have added it has really improved the feeling of fluidity in the free running. I have found some glitches in the current build where while jumping you can get stuck in or on environmental objects that shouldn’t be keeping you stuck mid fall in the air. I’m sure this is something that will be patched but it can be aggravating. Overall, though, if you liked the parkour in the first game it is more improved than ever before.
Conclusion
Dying Light 2 is a game that seems made for me personally as it combines many things I love into one gameplay experience. I say this upfront because I do feel a little guilty in saying that this is an extremely enjoyable game that I’m going to really try to make a dent in that 500 hours, but It isn’t perfect. I have run into a few glitches in the game and some things that I’ve spent a lot of time circling one area trying to figure out what I missed only to find a tiny little area that I’m supposed to crawl though that was hidden in the dark that just seem like maybe it was a rushed area of level design. I am confident that glitches will be patched at launch due to the team working very hard on reported bugs as they have been diligent about updating us about their fixes. Dying Light 2: Stay Human gets an 8/10 from for the very enjoyable gameplay and interesting branching narrative. They also have some great rooftop designs I would love to incorporate into my own mostly wasted space roof at home.
