Dying Light by developer Techland, a game initially released back in 2015, got an updated Platinum Edition. Dying Light is a survival horror based parkour game, which mixes some Mirror’s Edge formula with open world survival in a city called Harran.
We already know that Techland is working on and getting ready to release the sequel for Dying Light in December. And to prepare players for the upcoming game, Dying Light 2, developers have released a Platinum Edition that includes all the DLCs and updates. That includes Enhanced Edition update as well that expands the game’s map.
I personally haven’t played the game when it came out early, but got excited after watching the gameplay of Dying Light 2 at E3 2019 reveal, and have been looking forward to the release. So we got the time to dive into the original game that started it all, and Platinum Edition is the absolute best way to get into the series with a bunch of stories to explore.
Overall, Dying Light Platinum Edition is scary as well as fun at the same time, with a dynamic day/night cycle, which scales the difficulty of moving around the open world as well. After a few quests and getting a hang of the gameplay mechanics after a few hours, you will actually love playing Dying Light.
The story is very basic with a world infested with a deadly virus and turning people into zombies, and you, as one an undercover agent, are trying to find a cure for the disease. The quests are a bunch of fetching and running around the whole city and liberating safe houses as you encounter them.
Because of survival mechanics, there are a bunch of parts that the player needs to keep collecting to build weapons and find new blueprints throughout the game. It is amazing how engaging the gameplay mechanics are for Dying Light Platinum Edition, and because the game is at its peak as all the DLC and updates have squashed all the nasty bugs makes the experience much better.
Parkouring is amazing where you can climb and jump over building rooftops and over the zombies and exploration is made that much fun because of it. Even though there is no fast travel available, night cycle parkouring is a struggle because creepers are more active and dangerous without the sun and bring that horror element to the game.
Dying Light Platinum Edition includes all the previous DLCs including the story expansion and The Following, which also brings Enhanced Edition with it. Also all weapon and armor packs are available for the players to utilize.
The Following adds a bunch of additional gameplay with expanded maps and buggies that players can utilize and the story is more of a continuation of the main story. That is amazing and fun to play.
Overall, Dying Light Platinum Edition brings a bunch of gameplay for the players and a lot of exploration with additional areas added to the map with additional DLCs. But also there are a bunch of repetitive moments and dull quests that make the experience a bit boring. Overall, the game is definitely a lot of fun and adds some unique gameplay mechanics and provides that needed horror from this survival horror game. I would rate the Platinum Edition overall a solid 8 stars.
