E3 2019: John Wick Hex Impressions

Keanu Reeves, one of E3 2019’s most talked about either for appearance in Cyberpunk 2077, surprise appearance in the Microsoft conference, and for being breathtaking – or, it might have been for John Wick Chapter 3. There is one more reason though John Wick Hex, the new game developed by developer Mike Bithell and Published by Good Shepherd Entertainment.

From the trailer, John Wick Hex appeared to be a top down strategic game, but it is more than that. The game is as intense with its action sequences as it is in the movie. It feels as though you are reliving all of the movies within the game. Even though it might look like straightforward gameplay, John Wick Hex could be played anyway the player wants. We played through the demo – the player takes control of John Wick and then goes through an alley where enemies are present. Players are supposed to move based on a timeline – either it takes 2 seconds or 5 seconds – everything needs to be calculated and then players should take action. Some players try to avoid or shoot, but since the ammo is also extremely scarce, there is a third option of throwing the gun, stunning the enemies, and then taking them down. Players can also try to stealth through the whole area based on the player movements. Every action that the player takes is stored and at the end of the level, you can replay the whole sequence like a movie.

John Wick Hex looks amazing and players will have some amazing challenges or play the mind game strategically. The game is in development for consoles and will be available for Windows PC and Mac exclusively via the Epic Games Store at launch.
