Seasun Games recently released the mobile adaptation of JX3, Eastward Legend: The Empyrean during this year’s E3 to Chinese audiences. Throughout the game’s four year development, Seasun Games created a continuation of the JX3 story as well as a redesigned gameplay experience and graphics style that longtime JX3 and new players alike could enjoy on a wide range of mobile devices. The game’s release was highly anticipated by fans reaching over 15 million sign-ups during its pre-registration.
As a faithful MMO experience on mobile, Eastward Legend: The Empyrean has brought a PC MMO experience to a broader audience of mobile gamers. While longtime fans of JX3 will experience the same martial-arts focused gameplay and story of the original PC version, The Empyrean sees a reimagined gameplay experience with Chinese brushwork style graphics reminiscent of the traditional works created during the Tang Dynasty, creating a level of immersion typically only seen in PC MMOs.
When creating The Empyrean, Seasun Games focused on the design philosophy of game development as a “ninth art.” When faced with the challenge of delivering an environment that both loyal JX3 fans and a younger audience would enjoy, the developers looked to multiple graphical and cultural details to deliver a PC worthy MMO title. The result is the game’s stylistic and eye-catching graphics which used a blend of traditional Chinese techniques such as brush-work, paper cutting, and printmaking combined with a next-generation technology engine.
To deliver a living and immersive MMO experience, the developers implemented dynamic environmental elements which react to weather, time of day, and the actions of the players themselves. Terrain changes, weather cycles, and reactive NPCs all bring additional RPG elements to players when they step into the world of The Empyrean.
Akin to the original PC version, The Empyrean also brings robust social features to players, allowing them to interact with and enjoy the game together. Players in The Empyrean are able to join or create their own martial arts groups or guilds. Players are able to experience a vast world together spanning across 80 hand-painted scenes. The Empyrean also incorporates all of the social features that players have been able to enjoy in the long-loved PC version of JX3.
Eastward Legend: The Empyrean is now available for fans in China and is playable on a wide range of mobile devices. To find out more about Eastward Legend: The Empyrean visit the official site.
