Exoborne Play Test Impressions

Introduction/Information about Exoborne

Exoborne is a game that is planning to release on Steam sometime in the future. However, they recently had a playtest where players were able to experience the game and what it had to offer so far. This game is a multiplayer extraction shooter where players will work together with others to complete missions, fend off against enemies, gain different resources, and survive the dangers of mother nature. When it comes to extraction shooters for me, they always are a hit or miss. I believe it all comes down to the balance of risk and reward. When I was playing Exoborne during the playtest, I was having fun with the several challenges being thrown at me. From small fights with enemies to huge risks challenging a tornado that can catch on fire, I never got bored finding new abilities and loot that can change the way I can play. After playing the Exoborne playtest, I would say that this game is on a good track to become a fun extraction shooter with plenty of high risk, high reward challenges.

Gameplay

The gameplay for Exoborne involves players diving into teams and completing different missions. Missions are done in teams of three, so players will be working on a team. While out on these missions, players will also be able to gain different loot that they can use to make themselves stronger. They can gain different kinds of guns, different materials, and even equipment that can give them different abilities they can use to help with attacking enemies or traversing the map. However, if that player dies on a mission, everything they’ve taken with them will be lost. With this in mind, the team needs to be tactical with how they extract. They can play it safe and go after small enemies, but doing this won’t give them much good loot. If the team wants better loot, they need to go into more dangerous areas. The higher the risk of dying, the better the equipment and materials the player and their team can get. While I was playing, I had the most fun challenging the more dangerous areas. Especially when it comes to challenging weather problems, like the tornados that can appear.

Final thoughts

Overall, I believe the Exoborne playtest was a fun time and did great showing off what the game is all about. As I mentioned before, I believe an important aspect of extraction shooters is the risk and reward balance that comes when playing. I am glad to see that this game has executed this balance well and in a way that makes it fun to challenge the different risks. If you are a player who enjoys extraction shooters and is looking for one to play with your friends, then I would recommend looking into Exoborne. Players can wishlist this game for PC via Steam to be notified when the game comes out. This game also plans to release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
