Wizards of the Coast has teamed up with Brandon Sanderson, the award-winning fantasy author (Legion, The Way of the Kings, Skyward) who is bringing his talent to the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. Readers will be transported to the gothic horror world of Innistrad, and introduced to an all-new Planeswalker character created and designed by Sanderson. Fans will be able to download the original Children of the Nameless for free on Magic’s website today. Got to www.MTGstory.com to read the novella now.
Part of an ongoing initiative at Wizards of the Coast to expand the beloved Magic Story, Children of the Nameless is the latest in a series of different expressions including comic books, novels, and free short form content. Building upon the recently announced Magic: The Gathering Del Rey novel by Greg Weisman (available for pre-order now, shipping in April), Magic: The Gathering: Chandra comic from IDW Publishing (also available today) and the ever-expanding free online Magic Story which builds out the planes and characters featured in each card set release, (including chapters written by fantasy fiction luminaries Martha Wells, Kate Elliott and more), Sanderson’s novella is a standalone story to be enjoyed by fantasy fiction and Magic fans everywhere.
Sanderson has provided a first look of the action in his novella:
“Since the day she was born, Tacenda has been both blessed and cursed. Blessed by a powerful protection spell of unknown origin, she has warded her family and friends against any number of horrors over her 15 years. Cursed because the horrors which visit her small Kessig village are both numerous and frequent. Then, one night, for no reason she can fathom, her sacred song of protection fails. Seeking revenge on the man she believes responsible for the failure and the consequent destruction of everything she loves, she breaks into the manor of the local lord, a known consorter with demons. There she discovers the beginnings of an even greater mystery…starting with the fact the Lord of the Manor is anything but local…”
