Fantasy Maiden Wars – DREAM OF THE STRAY DREAMER – is a game that plans to release on October 20, 2025, for PC via Steam. This game is a fantasy tactical RPG where players will prepare, upgrade, and command their units and fight off supernatural enemies. I enjoy tactic games. They have always been a genre I can enjoy. While I am not the biggest fan of the Touhou franchise, this game was still pretty fun to play. The system felt both simple to understand and unique, which I enjoyed. After playing Fantasy Maiden Wars – DREAM OF THE STRAY DREAMER –, I would say it was a fun and standard tactical RPG that still implements unique system mechanics with its tactics.
Gameplay
The gameplay for Fantasy Maiden Wars – DREAM OF THE STRAY DREAMER – has a pretty simple yet unique tactic system. The game will start players out first by picking their main protagonist. They can pick between 2 different characters to start out with. They both have different strengths and weaknesses, so players should pick whichever one sounds more appealing for their playstyle. Once players choose, they get thrown right into the game. During the first mission, players will get taught the basics of the tactic system. For the most part, it’s pretty simple. Players choose a unit to command. They can move them, attack enemies, and use different special moves or magic—pretty standard stuff. Of course, there are other mechanics to help make the game more unique. One of the first ones they teach players about is entering a focus stance. During this stance, units have better defense. However, in this stance, they can move fewer spaces. Still pretty simple, but can still prove to be very effective. As mentioned before, the tactic system is very simple to understand but still has unique mechanics that make the system more enjoyable to play. There are also special mechanics for weapons. Certain weapons can be used not only at certain ranges but also during different conditions as well, which makes the game feel more fun to strategize with. After completing the first mission, players will be able to upgrade their units stats and mess with their equipment as well. Come up with different strategies and methods using the game’s tactic system to overcome all enemies in the way.
Final thoughts
Overall, I believe Fantasy Maiden Wars – DREAM OF THE STRAY DREAMER – is a standard but fun tactical RPG that still implements unique mechanics into its tactical system. I mentioned before that I do enjoy tactical RPGs. They can be fun for me from time to time. For this game in particular, I primarily had more fun when trying to figure out different strategies. Seeing what works and what doesn’t work, as well as what I can break gameplay-wise, is always something I enjoy, and being given the different and unique mechanics in this game was fun to do just that. If you are someone who enjoys tactical RPGs and are looking for a new one, then I would recommend this game. You will be able to purchase this game when it releases for PC via Steam on October 20th, 2025. You can also play a demo of this game right now if you wish to try the game out first.
