Greetings Gamers Greg here to talk about Far Cry 6 from Ubisoft Toronto. In the sixth installment of a crazy action-adventure series, what can you possibly ask for that you haven’t already had in an open-world game? The answer is Giancarlo Esposito. That’s all I needed personally. The Far Cry formula has worked for me for many of the installments just simply being a fun romp around an open-world map killing bad guys similar to Just Cause or even a Crisis game.
Overview:
In Far Cry 6 you play Dani and you get to choose if that’s a man or a woman, I chose Dani the Woman, reluctantly she joins a band of Guerrilla fighters trying to take down an evil dictator masterfully played by Giancarlo Esposito who is evil and caring at the same time. Anton Castillo, the President of Yara (played by Esposito) is a “loving” father and Yaran patriot who has vowed to return Yara to its former glory. Standing on the shoulders of his family’s Yaran legacy he is pushing for a better life for Yara by any means necessary and simultaneously trying to teach his son to one day become his successor. Yara the country you are fighting for freedom for is a Tropical Paradise reminiscent of Cuba. The country has survived multiple revolutions over centuries but is viewed as the Jewel of the Caribbean. Much like the real Cuba, they have been cut off from the rest of the world in a trade blockade making for a wonderful modern vintage feel. Classic cars and horses roam around the island as well as the souped-up classic vehicles in your arsenal that have been modified to reflect the war machines they are meant to be. Juan Cortez the former spycraft master and Guerrilla gadget maker creates some truly fun and imaginative weapons for you to use.
GamePlay:
Far Cry 6 has a whole host of weapons and tactics players can use to take down enemy strongholds and bases across the island as you liberate the island for the revolution. Of course like any other first-person action shooter you have a smorgasbord of conventional options but then you get to customize them for specific advantages on a given mission. You also now have the world’s most advanced smartphone with an incredible zoom technology that can mark targets you see from what feels like a mile away in your phone’s camera and then see them marked continuously from there on out. It also allows you to learn about a specific unit’s weaknesses and strengths, offering the type of ammunition that will be effective against them and their troop type. Troop types range from things like unit commanders who can call in more troops or tanks to medics that can revive downed adversaries. All with a little look in your tiny little smartphone; amazing tech for an island cut off from the rest of the world. Unlike previous Far Cry games this one axes the skill tree and builds all the character advancement into the weapons and gear you get to make it feel more like you are just an average civilian turned guerrilla fighter. Your power comes from the tools you use. It is something they keep reminding you in the game “The right tool for the right job” being something many characters will tell you throughout the game.
You aren’t in the fight alone, you have other troops supporting you especially in areas you have taken over there are also companions you can unlock through missions in the game. Guapo the friendly t-shirt wearing croc will fight along your side biting enemies and causing panic around while you might get people distracted by the fact that someone was bit by a croc. Other animal companions include a fighting rooster, an adorable weenie dog Chorizo, and more!
Pros:
Fast paced action with a beautiful backdrop. An excellent addition to the franchise. Animal companions, the ability to pet the animals, shooting all the bad guys, oh automated driving is a great feature of the Far Cry games. Also a good soundtrack makes driving around even more enjoyable. In my mind this is a must play and it’s fun, fun, fun.
Cons:
I had extremely long load times for the Xbox One but it is not really meant to be played on such an old console. Should have played it on the PS5 instead. This is really my fault and I can’t blame the game for it. Just mentioning it if you are on a PS4 classic or Xbox One it will probably be the same. After loading into the actual game there are no other load screens that I can remember so it’s only the first time you boot up each session. Though I found how the devs executed the cock fighting game play fun and creative, I am not a big fan of promoting it as a sport, but at least the game allows you to pet almost all animals that aren’t attacking you.
Overall this was a really fun game to play and I absolutely recommend it to any Far Cry fan out there. If you have not played a Far Cry game before, you could absolutely start here. A powerhouse of gun play, explosions, and vehicular manslaughter Far Cry 6 gets a 9/10. Plus Far Cry has some fun expansions coming in the near future including Rambo, a Danny Trejo team up, and some type of Stranger Things tie in. Exciting stuff might as well order it now and get the preorder bonuses.
