Japanese horror games have always pushed the boundaries, and fans will be ready to get their teeth stuck into the latest Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse game, which has been given a touch-up by Nintendo.
Following in the footsteps of the 2021 remaster of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, the remastered Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is designed as a more sophisticated murder mystery kind of video game.
While the franchise was initially created for Wii, it is now set to be available on all major gaming platforms.
But what do you need to know about this game? And when will it be released? All this and more will be covered in our guide.
What’s Fatal Frame about?
The latest edition of the Fatal Frame centres around the mysteries and secrets of Rogetsu Hall, which is an abandoned sanitorium-turned-hotel. Set on the fictional Rogetsu Isle, five girls disappeared during a festival, and then returned with amnesia. More mystery was to ensue as two girls, Tomoe and Marie, passed away, but their deaths could not be explained.
In this game, players will be able to find out what happened to Tomoe and Marie, and they will assume the role of Ruka Minazuki, who takes it upon herself to investigate their deaths.
Through journal entries, notes, and newspaper clippings, this remake bears the same hallmarks as other survival horror games, and players can earn points for each image they manage to capture.
When will it be released?
Nintendo Switch will release the remastered Fatal Frame game on March 9, 2023, and it will also be made available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
There is also a preview that has been made available on Steam, which will give you an idea of what the game will be like.
Special effects
From movies to online slots, horror as a genre requires the use of certain mechanics for it to be a success. Some of the best new online slots in UK in UK, like Horror Hotel and Castle of Terror, will have a harrowing soundtrack that is guaranteed to set a scary atmosphere. No less should be expected from The Fatal Frame remake.
Apart from the haunting music, you might find ghosts pop up when you use a camera flash, and the flashlight effect is something that can be commonly found in other games, such as Resident Evil.
What can we expect?
At first glance, the Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse has many of the familiar features of the original title, but the gameplay looks to be rather engaging.
Whether it is as clunky as the original game remains to be seen, but it promises to be a worthwhile remaster.
