One game that comes to mind when we talk about one of the top RPGs or JRPGs, is Final Fantasy VII. The wait for the fans who have been waiting since 2015 has finally come to an end and Final Fantasy VII Remake has finally released for PS4. Developer and publisher Square Enix has done an amazing job in recreating a classic tale with current generation technology.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is not a complete game–as explained by Square Enix–the game will be episodic and will be released in parts. Current remake is only about 7-10 hours’ worth of original game, which has been converted to 30-40 hour of gameplay including new side quests, characters, and challenges.
The next two paragraphs include spoilers with parts of story as well. So, readers feel free to skip the next two paragraphs if you do not want spoilers. There are some new elements added to the story that will be spoilers for old fans or for the player who are playing Final Fantasy VII Remake for the first time.
The story of Final Fantasy VII Remake seems at first to be completely similar, but there are certain things that are different. Lets start of with the first chapter itself, that introduces two things; first, Sephiroth himself, that was a bit unexpected as in the original game Sephiroth is introduced really later, and second, is the presence of a new entity, which is called Whispers. They are something like dementor-like figures from Harry Potter, but in world of Final Fantasy VII Remake, these whispers are a force of nature that try to keep the original events of the original game intact. And at any time, it seems that the story is diverging from the original story they appear throughout the game to keep the timeline on track. This gives a possibility of the story diverging from the original game in the future episodes. Also Roche is a new character introduced in the game who is a 3rd class SOLDIER, and it is uncertain as to what role he is going to play in future games.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is currently up to the point where Cloud and the team are still in Midgar. A few new characters and odd job quests have been introduced. Also, the summon materia have been reintroduced but with a difference here, as players must do certain battle intel quests for a newly introduced character named Chaldey, who provides with additional summon materia and other different materia. Also, Sector 6, Wall market has new characters introduced that players would have to do quests for to achieve various things, and there are certain scenes in game that could be achieved by doing quests for Characters like Tifa and Aerith that trigger different scenes based on the certain conditions met during earlier chapters.
Now, for some amazing facts about Final Fantasy VII Remake, there are no more turn-based events and players can use basic attacks, but it still requires the ATB gauge to fill up, which can be done automatically by using basic attacks. ATB is used towards abilities and spells. Also, Cloud’s Braver is now a skill and not a Limit Breaker attack. After playing with most of the characters, I think Tifa and Aerith are amazing to play with in this new battle system. Staggering an enemy is a new mechanic in the remake. The best thing about the battle system is that each equipment is upgradable and each different weapon can be used for a different battle style – and summons are a beauty in this game.
Enhanced graphics, gameplay, and new story elements just give the game an amazing make over. The old musical themes and new mini games are a few small things that provide a great fan service. In addition, the story taking some different turn of events, makes me excited for future episodes.
I would like to say that Final Fantasy VII Remake is an amazing game on its own with replay making the game even better. I would rate Final Fantasy VII Remake a solid 10 stars.
