At PAX East 2024, SQUARE ENIX announced the release of the upcoming DLC for FINAL FANTASY XVI, titled The Rising Tide. The DLC will be launched on April 18, exclusively for the PlayStation 5 console. The Rising Tide is the final DLC chapter for the critically acclaimed action-RPG, following the launch of the first paid DLC, titled Echoes of the Fallen. Both chapters are available as part of the FINAL FANTASY XVI Expansion Pass at a discounted price.
The Rising Tide brings an all-new story, battles, side quests, weapons, accessories, level cap and more, adding new depth to Clive’s journey before the exciting conclusion of FINAL FANTASY XVI. In this new DLC, Clive receives an unmarked letter with a request to rescue the Dominant of Leviathan the Lost. This takes him and his companions to the hidden land of Mysidia, where they uncover the tragic history of a forgotten people.

If you purchase The Rising Tide or the Expansion Pass, you will receive special bonus items. These include a reimagined version of the “Curtana,” which is the signature weapon used by the Warrior of Light in FINAL FANTASY XIV. Additionally, you will get two Orchestrion Rolls: “Torn from the Heavens” and “Through the Maelstrom,” which can be played as background music in the hideaway.
On April 18, the Free Update (Ver. 1.30) will be released for FINAL FANTASY XVI. This update will bring some quality of life improvements to the game, including the ability to quickly complete quests, updated icons for important character quests, a new Skill Set feature allowing players to save up to 5 unique Feat and Ability sets, adjustments to Abilities and Accessories for easier use, a new “Custom” controller type with freely customizable button layouts, enhancements to Photo Mode such as tone correction and screen effects, and numerous new orchestrion rolls.
The base game, FINAL FANTASY XVI, tells the story of Clive Rosfield, a warrior with the title “First Shield of Rosaria” who is sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, Eikon of Fire. The game takes place in the realm of Valisthea, a land blessed by the Mothercrystals but threatened by the spread of the Blight. The fate of the land is determined by the Eikons and their Dominants, who have the ability to call and wield these mighty summoned beasts. Clive will soon find himself caught up in a great tragedy and will swear revenge on the Dark Eikon, Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake.
Gamers can get a taste of Clive’s epic journey and understand his aspirations and objectives by downloading the FINAL FANTASY XVI Demo from the PlayStation Store for free. The game has a rating of M (Mature).
