gamescom 2019: Initial Booking Phase Top Result

The results of the gamescom early bird phase have been evaluated: Companies had the opportunity to secure their place at the world’s largest event for computer and video games at reduced conditions up until 14 February. Compared to the previous year, more exhibitors have presently taken advantage of this offer: The result of the early bird phase of gamescom 2019 (20 to 24 August) is 8 percent up on the previous year. In terms of exhibition space booked, a very good result of +10 percent has been recorded compared to the same period of the previous year. gamescom is also extremely popular internationally: Applications from 28 countries had been received up until the end of the first booking phase. The wide variety of the exhibitors that have registered so far, who reflect all facets of the medium, is also positive. In combination with a strong event programme, gaming fans from all over the globe can look forward to an extensive gaming offer and a top-class event experience. 

Among others, the following international top players and renowned companies from the computer and video game industry have secured their place at gamescom 2019: 2K Games, ak tronic, Amazon Games, astragon Entertainment, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Bethesda Softworks, Capcom,  Deep Silver (Koch Media), ELECTRONIC ARTS, Facebook, GIGA-BYTE TECHNOLOGY, Kalypso Media, Microsoft/Xbox, Nintendo, Square Enix, THQ Nordic, Turtle Entertainment/ESL, Ubisoft, Wargaming and YouTube Gaming. Furthermore, the following exhibitors from the hardware segment have already confirmed their participation at gamescom 2019: Alternate, Caseking, DXRacer, Medion, Razer and Trust Gaming. The booking status in the merchandise area is also first-class: Just under 90 merchandise suppliers have already confirmed their attendance. In comparison to the same period of the previous year, the current result is up by 24 percent. 

Top themes: Indies and eSports 

The newly introduced Indie section is celebrating its premiere at gamescom 2019, the section’s look & feel will distinguish it from the other sections of the entertainment area. The popular Indie Arena Booth is the key element of this section. It has been one of the highlights for years for many of the gamescom visitors and is a fixed item on the agenda of their gamescom visit. This also applies for 2019, because the organisers already confirmed their participation at gamescom in the initial application phase too. At the Indie Arena Booth numerous exciting new launches and creative titles await the visitors – further offers of independent developers will perfectly enhance the offerings in the new Indie section. And also the top theme eSports will be strongly represented at gamescom 2019: Turtle Entertainment/ESL, one of the top players, is also already on board. 

Strong interest from abroad 

The interest from foreign companies during the initial registration phase is also high. In total registrations from 28 countries have been received. It is already confirmed that country pavilions from Argentina, Brazil, China, France, Great Britain, Korea, Malta, Poland, Sweden, Singapore, Spain and the USA will be present in the business area. In total 12 pavilions are already firmly planned – with an upward tendency. This initial result underlines the continually increasing international significance of gamescom as a meeting point and business platform of the games industry. 

In total 1,037 exhibitors from 56 countries presented their new products at gamescom in 2018. The world’s largest event for computer and video games in Cologne played host to around 370,000 visitors, including 31,200 trade visitors.
