First winners of gamescom awards 2020 announced

• Watch Dogs: Legion voted Best Action Adventure Game
• Star Wars: Squadrons is Best Action Game
• Curious Expedition 2 wins in category of Best Indie Game
• Winners in other categories to be picked on Sunday during gamescom: Best of Show

The first winners of gamescom awards 2020 have been announced. The gamescom awards were presented in a total of four genre and three platform categories as part of gamescom: Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley.

The Ubisoft title, Watch Dogs Legion, won in the category of Best Action Adventure Game, Electronic Arts is happy to be rewarded Best Action Game for its title, Star Wars: Squadrons, and Curious Expedition 2 by Maschinen-Mensch received the award for Best Indie Game.

In the platform category, Best Microsoft Xbox Game went to Tell Me Why, Little Nightmares 2 was the pick for Best Nintendo Switch Game and Cyberpunk 2077 took home Best Sony PlayStation Game.

All winning titles in the genre and platform category groups are eligible for the top award, Best of gamescom, presented by the gamescom award jury. During gamescom, the international jury also selects a winner in the categories Best Announcement, Best Lineup, Best Presentation/Trailer and presents the special prize HEART OF GAMING Award.

All other genre and platform categories as well as the gamescom global awards and the consumer awards will be announced on Sunday, August 30, 2020, starting at 8:00 p.m. (CEST) during the gamescom: Best Of Show.
