Onimusha Investigates the Underworld and Engages in Exciting Sword Fighting

The showcase featured a dazzling new teaser for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, which explores a new and unsettling location within its dark fantasy universe. Along with revealing terrifying foes, the most recent film also unveiled a glimpse of the battle mechanisms that form the basis of the swordplay action.

A dark and mysterious force known as Dokyo labors to create new Genma in a hidden laboratory located deep under the game’s Kyoto setting. Among her perverse creations are:

  • Greater Nue: A ferocious, Chimeric beast that can harness the power of lightning.
  • Kogashira: Humans warped by parasitic Genma that create poisonous clouds of Malice.
  • Chijiko: A grotesque mass of interwoven human faces with far-reaching tentacles.

The main character Musashi Miyamoto uses his own abilities, such as the well-known Issen and Soul Absorption skills at the heart of the Onimusha™ experience, to make his way through these monstrosities:

  • Deflect: A defensive action that reflects attacks back at enemies – including projectiles.
  • Parry: Blocks that are timed to deflect incoming blows can knock attackers back into their friends or terrain, stagger them, and open the door for counterattacks.
  • Blazing State: Landing several parries results in a brief offensive power-up that also produces Blue Souls, which are used to fuel special strikes with Oni Power.
  • Soul Absorption: In order to restore health, upgrade equipment, acquire new skills, and more, pick the ideal time during combat to absorb the souls of vanquished opponents.
  • Issen: A famous feature of the Onimusha series, this high-risk, high-reward counterattack is launched by striking foes just before they strike a blow.

In addition to swordplay, the teaser shows off other forms of warfare, such as archery and a dual-edged weapon with a whirlwind strike. As Onimusha: Way of the Sword gets closer to its 2026 release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, stay tuned for further gameplay details.
