Singapore — Garena has announced a partnership between Free Fire and Indonesian actor and martial artist, Joe Taslim, which will feature him as the game’s first-ever playable Indonesian character.
Joe’s character — called Jota — allows Free Fire players from Indonesia to play as one of their local on-screen heroes. Players in Indonesia will be able to play Jota from today, March 16th, with the character available to the rest of the world from March 18, 2020. The inclusion of Jota as an in-game character brings a side of Indonesia to the rest of the world.
“After witnessing the popularity of Free Fire locally and globally, I am delighted to be involved as a character in the game. It is also a source of pride for me to be the game’s first Indonesian character. Hopefully like me, all Free Fire players in Indonesia will be proud of the presence of a local character in Free Fire”, said Joe, who was a former member of the Indonesian national judo team before pursuing acting full-time.
In the game, Jota is a military spy disguised as a movie stuntman, an acrobat specializing in parkour, equipped with the Sustained Raid skill. If you make a kill using an SMG or Shotgun, Jota can immediately recover as much as 40 HP. This skill takes 5 seconds to cool down.
“Joe Taslim is a source of pride for many of us Indonesians. Having his character in Free Fire not only gets our local players excited, we are also able to highlight Jota, a famous Indonesian, to the rest of the world,” said Christian Wihananto, Country Producer, Garena Indonesia. As the most downloaded mobile game of 2019, Free Fire will further elevate Joe’s global popularity.
Joe first came to worldwide prominence after starring in The Raid, Fast & Furious 6, and Star Trek Beyond. Joe will also be playing the iconic Sub-Zero in the adaptation of Mortal Kombat, one of the most popular video game franchises of all time.
To play Jota in Free Fire globally from March 18, 2020, download the game on both the Apple iOS App and Google Play.
