Get-A-Grip Chip, developed and published by Redstart Interactive, and available on Steam for PC, is an action adventure puzzle platformer game. Get-A-Grip Chip revolves around a robot named Chip who needs to save his lost Battery Bots on a dangerous quest throughout the depths of a robot assembly factory. However, this puzzle platformer game has unique controls you wouldn’t expect. Chip can’t jump, but you are able to use his hook on his head to grapple onto and over things such as molten metal, scary robots, toxic waste, and even lasers. Get-A-Grip Chip contains 30 levels across 5 diverse worlds where you need to successfully dodge deadly obstacles while rescuing all your battery friends or else you will unfortunately explode to your demise. You can even race your friends or others to gain spots on the leaderboards as well.
For the set up of Get-A-Grip Chip, there are around 8 levels to each environment and there are 5 different ones. You must pass every stage preferably collecting all the batteries in order to go onto the next one. At some point in the game, you almost need to collect them all before you get to proceed. As a platform game, it’s funny how you think this would require a lot of jumping, but Chip cannot jump. He can only grapple and hook himself onto objects in order to proceed. The gameplay and mechanics of this game are unique, and I found myself feeling counter-intuitive as I felt like I kept wanting to jump. I kept forgetting to use the hook as I was learning how to play through the first stages. Aside from this unique mechanic, the rest of the controls are simple. You use the ‘A’ and ‘D’ keys to move left and right, and you use your mouse to left click in order to use Chip’s grapple.
With Chip’s grapple, you are able to aim it in the direction your cursor is at, and once you are hooked onto something, you can aim which location you want to launch to afterwards. Players first starting out may have troubles with depth perception using Chip’s grapple like me. I either hooked or released myself too early or too late, ending up into combusted bits.
The visuals of Get-A-Grip Chip are really eye-catching and colorful. To me, the artstyle has a very adorable feel to it and Chip is just so cute. The little smile on his face makes the gameplay more attractive. Chip’s emotions are so expressive, especially for a robot. It almost makes me want to protect him because he seems like such a cinnamon roll, sweet. The Battery Bots are also small and cute as well. It’s really satisfying graphics as they are filled with different colors and so much detail. Each stage has so many little details, like shelves of products, small details on the robots, and even a specific box to rescue your robots. The music also fit the mood for each of the levels and it was very relevant to the game. It kept me on my toes and it was also entertaining to listen too.
The pacing is very fast, and almost stress and anxiety inducing. There are some levels that are timed and it almost feels like you need to speed run the game in order to pass. But of course, you must keep into account that you have to rescue your Battery Bot friends as well with these timed levels. For me, I felt very stressed during some levels as they were timed, causing me to fail the level more than usual. However, this kept me wanting to play more, determined to pass. It just grew increasingly more addicting.
While the pacing of Get-A-Grip Chip is fast, I will have to say that the camera goes quickly as well. For someone who gets motion sick quite easily, I couldn’t play the game for too long because I would get a headache. Sometimes the camera would quickly swerve in directions if you were quickly racing through the stage, which made it harder to focus for me. Alongside this, there isn’t really any storyline other than the opening scene that appears at the beginning of the game and some boss cut scenes. Since there were not really any other features than the main game’s objective itself, it started to become repetitive for me since the gameplay was also mostly the same. These were the only minor issues I had with the game though. If you don’t mind these issues, I would recommend trying this game out.
Get-A-Grip Chip has really unique controls, adorable visuals, and lovable main character that you can play as. The controls aren’t as complex as some may think, and the visuals make the game play more attractive and leave a feeling of wanting more. With 30 levels offered, there is a lot for you to do. For those looking for a fast-paced game with a cute robot named Chip, I would recommend this for you.

Steam Review
I really love playing video games! Growing up, my dad introduced me to video games, the first being Street Fighter. I have always been surrounded by them growing up and even now. They really impacted my life allowing me to share this commonality with my friends and new ones. I play a wide array of games, mostly PC, but sometimes PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Some of my favorite games are Final Fantasy VII, League of Legends, Persona 5, and Stardew Valley. As of recent, I've been playing Fall Guys and Among Us as well!
