Intro:
The chase is on! Filled with much thrill and excitement, come and experience this fast action packed racing game; that separates itself from the competition. Fast cars, intricate race tracks, and enhanced graphics, are just a few components of what GRIP: Combat Racing by developer Cage Elements brings to the table. And also, only being priced at $25, I view it simply as a must have for all racing fans.
Gameplay:
When you first begin the game, you’re inserted into a tutorial and tips mode and it was very helpful to me, due to the game sort of overwhelming me at first. There are many aspects to GRIP: Combat Racing that you need to pay attention to while your playing. You need to focus on your speedometer, find power ups, and not fall off the track, all at once! I was very relieved to start with the motions and basics because it provided a nice foundation to the game. But once I got the hang of it, I actually felt as though I was a professional NASCAR driver. You have to maneuver at top speeds and it is very exciting to look down and see that you are traveling over 500 mph. However, this isn’t your average speed burner game. With green orbs scattered across the race track, obtaining one of these results in a random powerup that can quickly change the tide of the game. You can obtain anything from a speed boost to a laser gun that shoots down numerous enemies, by adding this component to the game, it separates itself from the normal high speed car games and it creates a overall more versatile racing game.
Setting/Scenery:
I feel these numerous race tracks available deserved to be addressed because of how much it enhances the graphics within the game. Almost any setting you can imagine; come race in the clouds, the fast streets of what seems Tokyo, the middle of the desert with extreme electrical storms occurring in the background, it’s really a sight to see. These settings are so enhanced that there were a couple of times that I did not even mind falling off the map, just because I was so fascinated with viewing more of my surroundings. But although, I would like to see more clarity provided within these courses. There were some points I had a hard time navigating myself and there are also a few spots on some courses I would actually get stuck to the point I could not move and had to restart. Although, this was a rare occurrence and it didn’t happen to many times.
Game modes:
I cannot really even express how much content there is in GRIP: Combat Racing, because it’s loaded. There are various game play options to choose from such as campaign, split screen, online, carkour, and battle royale in the arena. Also, there are more specific game mode options within these selections such as classic race, speed demon, elimination, and follow the leader; your options are endless.
Verdict:
I have a lot of praise for GRIP: Combat Racing because it not only has good content, it has a lot of it!. There are many game modes, racing tracks, and cars to choose from. As a gamer having options is key, and even though you are continuously playing a game with the same plot, you can play that plot many different ways. I am also very impressed with the steering and handling of the cars. In previous car games I have played, there have always been this trend where it is so easy to whip out or lose control of your vehicle. But in GRIP: Combat Racing, even when control of your car is lost, you can immediately gain that control back and get right back to it. The camera really works with your car as it twists and turns throughout the course.
Pros: Excellent graphics, Customization options, Statistics, Various game modes, Colorful visuals, Power Ups, Lots of space to move, Flexible motions, Easy to Handle unlike some car games
Cons: Long loading screens, Small and hard to see obstacles, Getting stuck on a track, Game crashes occasionally & have to restart.
8.5/10
