Introduction/Information about GUNBOAT GOD
Gunboat God is a game that releases today, April 13th, 2026. In this shoot ’em up, players will take on waves of enemies in order to become the Gunboat God, fighting different kinds of hordes and upgrading their gunboat to become stronger. Seeing what this game was about had me pretty interested in what I was jumping into. I haven’t played a shoot ’em up game in a good while so I was ready to jump right in. When playing through the game, I was having a blast dodging and shooting through the hordes of thousands of enemies coming towards me. After playing through Gunboat God, I would say that it was a short, simple, and very fun experience to play through and it was one experience I think anyone can enjoy.
Gameplay
The gameplay for Gunboat God involves going guns blazing while having quick and precise movement. Upon starting the game, players will get straight into the action. As they get kicked out of the Citadel by monsters, they will fall on a boat. However, this isn’t any ordinary boat. This is the Gunboat, designed by a (somewhat) more friendlier monster. The crocodile known as Yeti. With him and his Gunboat, players will journey back toward the Citadel and take down every monster in their path. The controls of the game are pretty simple. Players can move, jump, go underwater, and shoot. They also have a dash they can use to avoid enemies, as well as make it across obstacles they couldn’t normally get across. Each level has a different goal. Some will be having to race back and forth in a small obstacle course. Others will be gathering materials. However, they all will usually involve the player fighting off hordes of enemies, and lots of them at that.
As players progress, they will unlock different weapons and be able to upgrade different parts of the Gunboat. These include overall upgrades such as better damage, and more specific upgrades for the different weapons players will gain, such as faster shooting for one or a bigger explosion radius for another. When playing the game, I thought the movement felt great. Being able to make more precise movements definitely comes in handy when things get hectic. I also really enjoyed the mechanic of getting stronger the more enemies you defeat. The more enemies one defeats, the faster they will be able to shoot, as well as their jumps and submerge will go much farther than before.
Final thoughts
Overall, I believe the game Gunboat God is a very fun and simple game to blaze through. The movement and shooting felt fun and addicting, especially against bosses. The weapons variety was great to see, as well. I haven’t played a new shoot ’em up game in a while, so playing this was a really fun experience for me. If you enjoy shoot ’em up games and are looking to blaze through a quick and easy game to have fun with, then I would recommend playing Gunboat God. Players can get this game on Steam, as well as PlayStation.
