RETO MOTO, developer of the popular WW2 game Heroes & Generals, eyes further international growth with a USD 5 million investment from entertainment company Nordisk Film. The deal is the fourth of its kind for Nordisk Film, targeting minority ownership shares in Nordic game studios.
RETO MOTO, the game studio behind WW2 game Heroes & Generals, partners with Nordisk Film, a leading Nordic entertainment company. Nordisk Film will invest USD 5 million for a minority ownership share in RETO MOTO.
Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, RETO MOTO was established in 2008 by the original founders of IO Interactive and the creators of the Hitman series. RETO MOTO develops and operates Heroes & Generals, a free-to-play first-person shooter game where Germany, the US and the Soviet Union fight for victory in a grand online war. In a fast-growing community, more than 12 million registered players from all over the world have access to a huge arsenal of vehicles and weapons and take part in the ongoing fight.
“The deal with Nordisk Film is very exciting. Partnering with such a competent investor is a validation of our mission to deliver the ultimate WW2 game experience and it will help us realize RETO MOTO’s full potential. We have our eyes set on aggressive growth in the international gaming market and we are pleased to work with the team at Nordisk Film to achieve our objectives”, said Jean-Marc Broyer, CEO, RETO MOTO.
Nordisk Film’s investment in RETO MOTO is part of the entertainment company’s overall strategy of investing in talented Nordic game development studios. The current deal is the fourth investment so far from the company’s investment unit Nordisk Film Games that has already acquired minority positions in Stockholm and New York based Avalanche Studios (Just Cause, Mad Max, theHunter) and Copenhagen based studios Flashbulb Games (Trailmakers) and Multiverse (Kogama.com).
“RETO MOTO is an experienced and well-run game studio with a huge appetite for growth. Heroes & Generals is an ambitious online game combining a first person shooter, character progression mechanics and unique elements of the strategy genre. RETO MOTO is founded and run by some of the best game developers in the world, it fits our portfolio perfectly and we are thrilled to be working with them in developing the company further”, said Mikkel Weider, Managing Director, Nordisk Film Games.
As part of the deal, Mikkel Weider and Nordisk Film Games’ Senior Partner Martin Walfisz will join the board of RETO MOTO.
