If you have been around the eSports community in Southeast Asia (SEA), you probably know what games are available. Many players prefer to stick to mobile titles. Fortnite, Mobile Legends, Hearthstone, you name it. While PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, better known as simply PUBG, have been experiencing somewhat of a mixed reception elsewhere in the world, SEA has proven a true home for one of the best mobile games out there. How has this come to be?
A Love for a Gritty Detail
Southeast Asians have been known to love both animated games, such as Mobile Legends Bang Bang, but also have a passion for those more realistic and visceral experiences as PUBG itself. Fortnite is still popular in the region, but for some reason, players have taken competitive PUBG more seriously.
The answer is simple – PUBG has been trying to pass as a competitive game longer than Fortnite. You can even compare PUBG and Fortnite as soccer (European football) and NFL (American football).
Soccer – some think – is the more boring game of the two. It has a lot of strategy and each victory is the result of one or two very hard-to-score points, at least when even teams are playing against one another.
You can therefore describe PUBG as soccer. On the other hand, you have the NFL, which is a form of entertainment – there are the cheerleaders, the spectacles, the concerts and god knows what more. And there’s where Fortnite comes. Don’t get us wrong – Fortnite is very skill-based game, there’s no denying that.
However, it’s also more showy. That’s perhaps what has prompted so many people to take to the former title a little more seriously when competitive gaming is concerned. If you are an eSports betting fan, however, this won’t make much difference to you.
In fact, there are almost equal markets when it comes to betting on PUBG and Fortnite today. All you need to do is pick an eSports bookie you can trust, such as https://gg.bet/en/betting/. You will find plenty of great eSports wagers available right on the website, including for PUBG.
India as Driver of Progress
Another important reason for the success of PUBG Mobile in particular, is India. The game has been able to amass a lot of interest by strategically investing in India where mobile gaming is all the rage.
You can chalk this up to the somewhat cheaper price for tech that most young Indian gamers can afford. Plus, $15,000 goes a long way India, and PUBG Corp., the developers and publishers of the game, have been able to achieve quite a bit more with a nominal investment.
With half the country under the age of 30, you can see how India is quickly becoming to be the driver of all progress for PUBG Mobile – plain and simple. Competitive video gaming in developing and populous economies is only beginning.
Both SEA and India are on the cups of exploding in terms of eSports potential. We cannot wait to see what the next few years will bring!
