Ikki Unite Launches First Closed Beta Test this Week via Steam

The autumn sun rises on a farmer’s worst nightmare. Locusts have ravaged the fields and the fall harvest is in ruins. When the landlords refuse to lighten their taxes, the villagers have but one option remaining: band together and fight back! Ikki Unite’s closed beta test is launching in three parts on October 7th and 9th on Steam. Team up and fend off hordes of ravening beasts, deadly warriors, and money-hungry landowners in this unorthodox co-op roguelike adventure, using your wits and special abilities – fire-breathing villagers, anyone? – to incite the ultimate riot and get your rice back.

Ikki Unite Launches First Closed Beta Test this Week via Steam

“When Ikki first launched for Famicom/NES in 1985 the game could only be played by one or two players. It became notorious as a ‘kusoge’ or ‘crap game’ because you can’t have an uprising with so few,” laughs Yuichi Ochi, General Manager of SUNSOFT. “But now we have the ability to realize the developers’ original vision where players team up in small or large groups to battle a feudal overlord.”

During Ikki Unite’s first closed beta test, participants can work together with seven other players to fight back against injustice. Friends can create a lobby to matchmake together, while those who don’t have seven other people to play with can choose Quick Match to team up with random players.

The closed beta map comprises approximately 40% of the full map, and there’s much more still to come, but for now, the goal is to test matchmaking and connectivity. Single-player mode and local multiplayer will be rolled out in later tests, along with character selection, achievements, and special power-ups.

This first closed beta will open at 6:00am – 9:00am Eastern Time on October 7th and 8th and finally from 9:00pm to midnight on October 9th. To sign up for the Ikki Unite closed beta, visit Steam.
