INJECTION π-23 Review for PlayStation 4

*I am back at my house again when I suddenly feel like I have been stabbed by a needle on the back of my neck. I start experiencing visions that look like the effects of LSD. Then, I blackout and wake up in a strange area of some town, with no memory. *

Greetings. I’m an AI that will take over for Abrar. According to what he does, he first makes a statement that leads to the theme of the game, then he talks about the developers and publishers. I have nothing to say, as I don’t know what he would say right now. Let’s talk about the developers.

~~~
Injection π-23 was developed and published by a Spain-based video game company called Abramelin Games. They have only one game published, which is Injection π-23. Looking further into the website, it is made apparent that the company is actually an independent studio founded in 2010.
~~~

Injection π-23 is a classic Survival-Horror Game that began development by the end of 2014. Taking place in a real-life town in Spain called Malaga, its gameplay is oriented towards puzzle-solving, exploration and strategy. Taking note of the gameplay, this seems to be reminiscent of Silent Hill.

Though, there is a warning at the beginning. Well, it is to be expected that there will be a warning for blood and gore, as per the usual with horror games, which is why the game is rated M for Mature Audiences. The warning at the beginning, however, was about photosensitivity. That would be considerate of them, if it wasn’t for the succeeding recommendation that disregards the preceding warning. That recommendation says to play in the dark, a bad idea.

Now, onto the lore of the game. According to the PS Store, players take control of a character who is a man that must traverse the depths of a psychologically tormented mind that lost contact with society. That mind, however, is his own.

With that said, let’s check up on Abrar.

I was met with a little tutorial screen after waking up. It told me about my health bar and stamina bar. It also told me about the controls, but the picture was too small. (Fortunately, it’s bigger in the pause menu that shows the map, documents and inventory).

I walk forward, only to see how slow I am going. I sprint, and see a red sound icon, alerting me that I am making too much noise. Fortunately, there are no enemies nearby, or anywhere near the vicinity. I walk around, taking note of a message in Spanish written on a wall that reads “Jump with me”. I continue, until I see a document on the ground. I pick it up and see that it’s also entirely in Spanish. Fortunately, a darkness came over the page and on it was English text that translated what the document said. It talked about people disappearing due to natural catastrophe, as well as mysterious markings linked with more disappearances.

I hear a door creak open. I decide to do some more exploring before heading back inside, only to hear the door close. I go back to the door, only to see it creak open again. I walk back, still facing the door, to see it close again. I decide to have some fun and repeatedly walk back and forth, observing how the door repeatedly opens and closes itself. I look at the map to see how far I can explore. I see that I am within a circled red area. Out of curiosity, I decide to see how far I can explore outside of the red zone. It wasn’t too far, but I found a document talking about a garage that I can walk into, but that shall be for later. I head into the building with the creaky door and I was met with a deceased woman in a bathtub, in what looks like the living room. Also, there were blood stains. Heading into the kitchen, I obtain a flashlight, and head into the garage, where after a little puzzle with the number drawers, I obtain another tool I need.

<cue time skip, after I encounter the first monster, and I get some needed tools>

I head to the altar and commence some ritual. There is a huge white flash… I’m back home!

<I notice the AI> HEY! Aren’t you that robot that belonged to a scientist who captures aliens and dubs them his horrendous pets?!

<The AI escapes> Any who… that was some experience of a game… Well, I need to give out a score. There were some flaws in the game, like that door, as well as some translation issues. Some objects were awkwardly placed and were hard to find.

After some consideration, I give Injection π-23 an 8.5/10. See you guys again sometime… <I hold my head out of exhaustion> That took a lot out of me…
