Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl is a 8-bit retro brawler game by developer Interabang Entertainment. This retro game requires two players, as they fight their way through endless levels of enemies. One of the players plays as Jay, while the other player plays as Silent Bob. This Co-Op game was extremely fun and exciting. I played Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl with my sister for the optimal experience, and it felt like we were playing an older arcade game. (Here are the two character models of Jay and Silent Bob to the left).
Obviously, the first thing that players notice when they start the game is the look and music. This game looks exactly like older arcade games and it was very nostalgic to play.
Besides the retro look of Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl, the color of the game popped out and fit in well. The sound design also had a very retro pixelated sound to it, whenever you moved around you could hear pixelated footstep effects. Besides the look of the game, Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl is a very fun game. The entire plot of this game is simple. Fight and clear out as many levels as you can. Jay and Silent Bob fight through their local city mall, encountering gangs, biker groups, and more.
In these meetings, players have to fight for their lives with whatever they can find. This could vary from chairs, fists, skateboards, and more random weapons!
The story itself is pretty long and felt pretty endless, which brings up the one flaw I had with Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl. Repetition. Like most retro arcade games, the game itself gets repetitive pretty quickly. Players will fight loads of enemies, and move on to the next level just to fight more of the same enemies. Yes, some of the character models were different, but the fighting styles seem to be the same. There were some boss levels that players had to face, which were fun and kept the game exciting.
All in all, I really did enjoy Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl. Even if the game was repetitive, it just added to the older arcade game feeling. This game could fit right in with PacMan and ld streetfighter, and is an extremely fun game to play with a friend or family member. If you enjoy Co-Op Brawlers, definitely check out Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl!
